speaker insulation

I'm puting 6 1/2's in the door of my '76. Do I need some sort of backing or insulation behind the speaker. There's nothing between the mounting hole and the door skin. What about the adhisive mats sold at Best and Circuit? Can I just set the speaker into the mat? Can the mat contact the rear magnet of the speaker?

Thanks in advance

you may want some sort of enclosure. They also sell foam baffles that work for weather protection. They are realatively inexspensive as well. If you want to get wild with it you could make yourself some fiberglass enclosures. but DO NOT cover up the back of the speaker as that is the way it cools itself. Hope this helps

i put speakers in the door of my 76 and the door handles buzz, I need to do something about that.. I think I put something like 5" or 5 1/2" though, they fit perfectly... you might want to check the size on that, maybe I had 6 1/2 also but I think I remember it was in the 5's

you can buy dynamat door kits, but they are waaay too expensive. There is a cheap alternative that you can find @ a hardware store like lowes or home depot. it is called peel and seal. it is around 15 - 20 bux for a 50' roll of it. it has an aluminum backing on it. Iwould reccomend a rol of that and covering the door with it. it will reduce rattles and give a better sound.
