Possible purchase 2004 Excursion... Suggestions/Recommendations/Thoughts
I have the opportunity to purchase 2004 Xcursion, Eddie Bauer, 6.0PSD, moon rood, DVD, etc. with 75,000 miles one owner vehcile. The vehcile was garage kept and is immaculate inside and out. Appears to be a cream puff. Owner reported that turbo was replaced under warranty at 60,000 miles. Have obtained recent maintenance records from local shop. New brakes and rotors/drums all around at $53,000 miles with front shocks. At 71362 miles power sterring pump & sensor were replaced. At 56,800 miles 4 wheel drive encoder motor was replaced. In 2007 $2744.00 worth of work was perfromed. 2008 to date, $746.09 work performed. Owner asked $25,000 but will take $23,000. He does have a full set of extra wheels with snow tires that he will give if purchased. He claims the truck was driven exclusively by his wife who transported 4 kids to private school 5 days a week, 50 mile roundtrip in a rural area. Truck probably has not seen many highway miles. Is $23,000 dollars too much for vehicle? The truck seems to have an inordinate amount of recent work? My reference point is 2000 Expedition with 141,000 since knew with no issues except for COPS, plugs, brakes etc. The truck seems to have had some issues but appear to be all fixed. Should I or shouldn't I proceed. Totally confused.
Price is way too high. The seller is trying to recoup all of his repairs from you, IMHO.
There is a 2003 Limited near me (Virginia), 28,000 original miles, very little repairs ever needed, and only a $21,000 asking price.

2003 and 3 6.0PSD scare the hell out of me. Have read many horror stories about them. Prices around here are in the 20,000 to $25,000 range for 6.0PSD Excursions. What part of Virgina are you in?

If it had not sold with the BUY IT NOW price, I was going to make them an offer. The Oasis on it was pretty clean. Very few repairs, didn't have all the horror tales attached to this one.

Around here (prolly elsewhere) prices have dropped like a stone in the past two years on full sized pickups and SUV's.
Forget the KBB price, around here dealers lots are loaded with new and used ones, and their trade in value is terrible...less than 1/2 the MSRP for a one yr old model.
btw: I would have bought one a those 2007's, but it's too tall to fit past my garage door.
You could probably buy this year / model / mileage somewhere in the 20-21k range - yes. But are you comfortable with this truck? If you are, what's $2k? While these things are fading in price, the truck was probably $50-53k new - so the guy selling just might be like many of us on here....not sell at any price - or, sell only at a price comfortable with. Clean one-owners aren't that plentiful, in my opinion - for every one that was a grocery hauler, there are two that were beat to hell by a contractor. I don't think the # is that bad...you can't buy something else like it, nor certainly that size for the price. If it entirely meets your needs (cash, color, options, etc) go for it - even if you have to do some repairs down the road, so be it....the bottom can't fall that much further and it doesn't appear you're buying it to flip it - rather hold it and drive it.

Just found out the owner is **** about maintenance and apparently can afford to be. Anything that is wrong or appears to be wrong it is immediately addressed. He owns nine other vehicles, lives on 20 acres in a 6 million dollar home. He has a lift in his garge to service his fleet. I certainly don't think he needs the money. I probably can't move him any further. I think Iam going to go for it. Thanks for all your input. I sincerely appreciate it.
sounds like a deal
I just picked up an 04 EB 4x2 with 63k for $20k out the door from a dealer
If this is a 4x4 I would think you are getting a good deal.
you may be able to find better, but go with what you like and want

Do yourself a favor and bring a bottlejack. Get each front wheel off the ground and wiggle the wheel. These are notorious for ball joints. I didn't find mine until after the deal was done and back home 6 hours away from the dealer. No problem because I can do it myself for $80 in parts, instead of hundreds of dollars at a shop.
