Quick question about my gears...

Mainly, what gearing do I have?
I have tried using the calculator on the site and I don't think I am getting the right answer.
Basics....e4od, 4x4, 235/85R16 (31's).
1500rpm @ 50mph or 1800rpm @100kph

I had calculated it to be 2.97 or something like that.
My math is obviously wrong.

the only reason i think they are 3:55's is my old '87 had close to the same speed/rpm combo and it had 3:55's.

1500 RPM E4OD 3.55 gears on 235/85-16 tires should be doing 54.88 MPH

1800 RPM should be 107.79 KPH.

Probably a slight speedo error.

I'll look into the speedo issue.
I knew my math was way off though!

I do to much lay out work.
Basically surveying the old school way.
I am a bit more modern though, I use spreadsheets on a computer instead of a calculator and paper.

Lots of geometry, area, and cubic volumes for cut and fill operations.
Stone backfill calculations for buildings, pads, pipes and roads.

I have a fool proof system for calculating how much gravel or bags of concrete I need.
I look at it, guess how much it's gonna take and get THREE TIMES as much. It's almost perfect every time.

C5 left the factory with a 4.10 limited slip axle.

3:55's are a good compromise.

With the E4OD and 4.10 gears, you are still geared higher than I am with 3.55's and a 4 speed.

Right now you should top out at 104 MPH at 3300 RPM.
With 3.55's that would increase to 121 MPH at 3300 RPM.

1800 RPM should be about 66 MPH with 3.55's.
2080 RPM should be 66 MPH with 4.10 gears.

Where you may run into an issue with 3.55 gears is if you have to drive 55 MPH.
1500 RPM at 55 may mean running with overdrive locked out.

That could possibly cost you MPG instead of increasing it.
