When you loop the strap (choker), it decreases the rating of the strap by somewhere around 30%.

I've use straps in the choker possitions before, and it is a pain in the ___ to take off after it sinches down. A shackle is the stronger, easier way to go.

Don't know if I should argue with you and correct you though, I might get Ban.

I guess because it doesn't require a clevis???

off topic but how big of clevis do you consider adequate for a fullsize?

I borrowed it off a skidder a few years back. When I went to return it the skidder was gone.

using them in the choker postion does make it weaker, and ask for it cinching down if you put a small towel in there itll stop it from being too big of a pita to get undone

Ive seen a few people use fire hose also.

I doubt they will break under normal use but its not its intended use so I wont use them.

A 3/4" clevis/shackle works with me.(I've used smaller when not stuck to bad with no problems also).
A 7/8" be plenty.
1" is definatly plenty, but just looks bad ****.

There's a 1 1/2" clevis at work with a 17 ton WLL that I'd love to have.

As for a fire hose.....I don't think I'd want to use one.
One of my friends used one and when he jurked a truck, it slowed him down and started pulling him backwards with all the stretch....didn't think that thing would stretch that much. Then it dry rotted pretty quick and poped the next time he used it.
