Ok, Ok, I mean one car stacked on another!! Got my NEW BendPak lift and wanted to share some details of it's set-up and use.
Last week I managed to get 6 guys together to unload it from the truck - man those ramps are HEAVY!! I've rarely seen larger/thicker pieces of metal than those on the ramps. And the non-slip surface is seriously NON-slip - it's more like shards of glass than sand!! There'll be no slipping off that thing!
Today, after a freind and I squared up and erected the posts and cross beams, a few guys came over to help get the ramps up - they must weigh 300lbs each. The steel used on the BendPak is massive! Two of my freinds have Lift experience: one has set a couple up and one works for an outfit that sells another brand. They both said this is the heaviest gauge steel of any lift they've seen. As well, from the cables to the wheels on the caster kit, everything is heavy-duty and obviously over-engineered. The welds are all top-notch (according to a journyman welder) too.
Lucky for me - the instructions are pretty good so far. I got the cables all strung and connected today and the power unit mounted. Tomorrow I'll tackle the hydraulics and airlines - a great Fathers Day for a shop-nut!!!
I'll add to the post tomorrow...wish me luck
Sounds great, your set for a real happy father`s day indeed! One of the persons helping wasn`t named Dick by any chance? He`s a lift service man.
It will be nice to see the pics and maybe some day a garage tour of your place would be great.
Possibly we could work in a tour and a meeting all at once at your place.
For me it would mainly be exhaust work. The rest I can pretty much handle with floor jacks though a lift is much handier. Too bad it would take up so much room
(or perjhaps if I had less projects).
Justifying it is easy. Get a welder and a pipe bender and do exhaust systems on the side for cash under the table, same with oil changes and easy stuff like that, and you will have it paid for over the years! Would take a few years, but hey it might work on your wife
That`s ok to do custom work I suppose if you have the extra time but it`s out of the question for me. So far not having one isn`t a major problem, rather an inconvenience at times.
