I grew up shooting marlin .22's so naturally I bought a marlin .17. I got the 917v for a couple hundred bucks last year and it seems to be a good gun all around.
one thing to remember about the .17 is the projectile is very light, making it very sensitive to wind. and the extreme velocity makes it very sensitive to anything it comes in contact with.
on a 400 yard shot, a 5 MPH wind can deflect the projectile sideways up to 5 ft.
i used to have a .17 Remington, and if it hits a blade of grass 6 foot in front of a rabbit, the projectile will disintegrate before it hits the rabbit.
but if you get a clean shot, there will be nothing left of the rabbit except for little teeny pieces scattered over a 10 foot circle.

so if im correct, a .17 rem prolly has more impact power then the .17 hmr/hm2, based off the fact of 17 rem case holding more powder and the weight of bullet?

probably. i have no idea what a .17 hmr/hm2 is though
i do remember that the muzzle velocity was something like 4700fps.
I'll second the CZ recommendation. Very finely made and finished firearms indeed. I owned a CZ452 in 17hmr and enjoyed it greatly. Deadly on squirrels especially in light of the outstanding accuracy and trajectory of the little HMR, 120yrd headshots were EASY. In fact I found out rather quickly that inside 70yds headshots are a must even with the 20grn loads if you plan on having anything left to eat, outside that range the bullet has slowed enough that body shots aren't too destructive. Again with 20grn gamepoints.
The rifle on top is the CZ452 american 17HMR I mention,
below is a CZ452 Super Exclusive in .22lr
