got another gun...

so i had a 20guage remington 870 express that i bought for grouse hunting 2 years ago, and havent shot it since. me and a buddy went to the gun show in St. Paul this weekend, and i traded in the shotgun for a pistol.

ive been wanting a smaller pistol that doesnt take up much space... and that my g/f could shoot comfortably.

i traded in the shotgun for $200 which i feel was pretty good, towards a Wlther PPK/S in .380 new in the box. so, a shotgun and $295 later i had a new pistol.

its stainless steel with black plastic grips, looks pretty sweet. with the magazine extension on the bottom it fits my hand pretty well consider how small the gun is.

the only thing im not too fond about is that it is made by smith and wesson, which i know is a good brand but i want a real walther.... this one is just licensed by walther. oh well.

so i took the g/f to the gun range last night with the Glock model 17 and the new Walther PPK. shes never shot a pistol before but she handled them VERY well.

we put about 80 rounds through the walther, not a single problem.

does anyone else have a walther PPK, or feel that i got a decent price on this gun? im sure i paid more than i should have for it, since i bought it at a gun show.

If you are happy with it then it was a good deal. Buying guns is like buying cars, you cannot pay to much for a good one or to little for a poor one. I carried S&W's all of my years in law Enforcement, and most officers still carry S&W's you do not have to worry about the quality. In fact probably as good as quality as the Walther if not a shade better. I like their guns but not their corporate policy.

Builttough, which day did you go down and do you remember who you got the Walther from? I was down there on Saturday. Wasn't in the market for a gun quite yet but I was hoping DPMS was having another deal on there AR-15 mags. Of course they weren't. The last show I went to they were selling new 30 rounders and 20 rounders 2 for $25. And they were the nice ones that come with colts. The just didn't say colt on them. All I walked away with was some ammo and a 35 cubic foot Champion safe. Which I have yet to figure out how I am getting it off of the trailer and into the house.

BuiltTough. . . .

Congratulations on your purchase!!!

Walthers have a reputation for dependability, reliability, smoothness, fit and finish.
As for your question about the price. . . . I can only say this -
IF you ever use the Walther to defend (and save) your (or your loved one's) life, it will be priceless!!!

No, I don't think you paid too much, personally.

Now for a suggestion -
Give your girlfriend the Walther and buy for yourself a S&W mdl 6906.
This pistol is about the same size as the Walther and has the added advantage of using the 'full-length' 9mm, instead of the .380 acp aka the 9mm short or 9mm kurz.
(Just a little bit more 'umph' with the every squeeze of the trigger.)

I let one 'slip through my fingers a few years ago. I have regretted it ever since.
Oh well. . . maybe I'll by a Glock 19 or 23! Ha!
(Just go get it in a Ford!!!!!!)

Breath control, sight alignment, trigger squeeze!!!

Keith

Boss- i was there saturday from @ 100-330 roughly, i bought the gun pretty much right in the middle of the show floor from a guy, last name is Maddon? older guy, his wife was doing all the paper work. i was the dude walking around with a shaved head, shotgun, metallica t-shirt and a olive drab backpack all day. im sure that fits the description of about 12 guys there between those hours. too bad we didnt know eachother were there so we could meet.

i had a bunch of Ruger Mini-14 30+40 round magazines to sell but no dealers were interested in buying or trading them. i was looking to trade them for either Glock modle 17 mags, or Ar15 mags but since the assault weapons ban ended the mini14 mags were pretty much worth nothing!

just an idea on getting the safe into the house... when i had to get mine into the basement- istead of carrying it down stairs we backed my truck up to the basement window ( the huge window ) and put a couple of 2"X6"s in the window and slid the gun safe down the boards slowly to the floor. it took me+ 2 guys, and im kinda thinking your gun safe would be heavier than mine so get 3 buddys and a case of beer, you should get it in the house fine. i hope the trailer is in a secure spot though so nobody drives off with a new gunsafe...

Ha ha, thats funny built tough, my head is shaved, but I was wearing a Slayer shirt. I had on a camo Remington hat and was wearing a company jacket, so you couldn't see my shirt. My buddy had the Metallica shirt and a long pony tail. I think we were there between 11:00 and 2:00. I think the people you got your walther from are the same people who sold my wife her Taurus .357 magnum. I was asking because I know Mark at Oak Grove Arms fairly well and he has Quite a few Walthers. I don't think he had them with though when I think about it. He had quite a few AR-15's with him that day. I was surprised to see he had the Soccom with him.

As far as the safe goes, I got the trailer in the garage just to keep it out of the elements. Never thought of anyone stealing it but that has been happening around here a bit. Especially with construction trailers. Darn Meth heads. Anyhoo, I think I figured out how I am going to get it into the house. Our lower level (basement) has a walk out. I think I am going to take both sections of the door off so I can back the trailer right up into the house. The trailer tilts but I havn't decided if I want to do that yet. I might have an easier time pulling the safe out to the edge and tilting it off the trailer. I might have to put a strap around the top and use something to help ease it up and rock it off the trailer. It would pretty much be the exact opposite of how he got it onto the trailer. I might pull the 4 wheeler in and use the winch for that. Its fastened onto a pallet and wrapped in the box still so with some help we should be able to get it off without damaging anything. Oh yeah, I looked at the weight of this model in the brochure. It weighs in at 995 pounds. I think we'll need the beer for extra strength. Forget the spinach.

BuiltToughF250, I had a Walther PPK/s pistol just like you describe. I loved it and I'm sorry I got rid of it. The only thing is the cartridge is a little light for a carry pistol (which is what I got it for) but then any gun can protect you if you show enough "moxie" behind it!

If you are happy with the gun, then it was a good purchase regardless of the price. Just like with our Fords, you can do so much to them that they aren't worth trading in, but if you like it then there's no price too high!

It sounds like I have the same Champion safe as you. They delivered mine with a pallet dolly. They had no steps to contend with and used a ramp to get over the threashold.
Good luck..

Or better yet, pick up a gun in .357 Sig (1400 fps/580 ft/lbs).
