Hx55???

Hey I was reading FARMers HX50 post which prompted me to go on Ebay and have a look around... I couldn't find any HX50s but I did see a few HX55s. How do they compare and are they pretty similar to HX50s install-wise? I am in the market for a new turbo and I don't really wanna break the bank doing it either though. With stage 3s and the right supporting mods (without N02) what could I expect to see out of the bad boy? 600ish maybe???

The 55 is too big. I've found that a couple guys use them in pulling trucks but it the spool time is too long.

However, they say once you get it spooled your in for a wild ride.

I think you'd at the point that the truck would not be a daily driver anymore.

No the HX55 has larger housings/compressor/turbine options I think. That link just states that the HX55 has the option of VGT where the 50 does not. Somebody builds a 50/55 hybrid that might be of use but I don't know alot about it. Either way the 50 would have all the options you would need until you go huge HP.

I don't know anything about that. Sequentials are out of my league so far.

Ya, i know what you mean.
I understand a good portion of how all it works, but it's hard to find any info on how they are matched up...

Yeah, the 55 is huge compared to the 50/h2e. I was talking to one guy that took his sled truck out on the highway with the 55. He said that it took forever to get any boost, but once she spooled he was scared s***less.

There is a guy on Ebay who has the HX55 on a 5.9 and it's not a sled pulling truck. If it works on there... even if it has spool issues on a 5.9... it should be alright on a 7.3??? If you guys think it won't be streetable I will stay away from them but that was just my reasoning on the matter.

Thats pretty big for the 5.9. I'm not sure what housing's the hx55 has but remember that the 5.9 has too less cylinders than the 7.3.

This spooling issues that i'm talking about are on 7.3l's with serious mod's to them.

I'd stay away from it. Thats what everybody told me to do. What sucks is there always seems to be a couple on ebay for cheap.

The two less cylinders shouldn't make too much of a difference should they? We still have the bigger engine so we would be making more exhaust shouldn't we??? And with stage 3's there is like 2 and a half times more fuel going in than stock so there should be about 2 1/2 times more exhaust gases should there not? I'm not trying to be ignorant I am just trying to figure this out. And ya it sucks cuz there are some on Ebay for next to nothing... relatively speaking.

The stroker is bigger. More exhaust gases. However, the HX50 is for like a 11 liter Detroit. I'm not sure what the HX55 goes on but it has to be bigger.

So, 7.3L compared to a 11.5L detroit.
