if you guys remember the toyota that i had in California and brought it back to nd. well i started tearing into the project.
tore it down to the short block found a broken timming chain guide that had worn a hole threw the timming cover and into the watter pump housing, a warped head and valves that were worn to the point you could damn neer shave with them. got the head rebiult shaved all new valves valve guides and seals. new timming chain cover watter pump chain and tentioner new steel backed timming chain guides to replace the stock plastic ones. every single gasket and seal was replaced in the entire motor. still have a few odds and ends to finnish up should have it running tommorrow
I had to do all the same to my yota a couple years back......they are easy to work on at least(except the fuel filter with the intake still on).....I went through LC engineering for all my parts(I built it up a tad bit)She still runs like a rapped ape......but its getting pulled soon, I have all the parts but the motor for a VW TDI swap
yea they are easy to work on one of the things i still have to do is get the heater tube that runs from under the intake over to the drivers side. i cant get the sob lined up i think it got tweaked or something. i removed the fuel filter and bracket and now i can get it close but it needs to twist about 1/8th of an inch for the bolt holes to line up but the tube hits the block before then. im sure after looking at it again after a good nights sleep it will probably go right together. after that i need to adjust the valve lash, do plugs and wires radiator belts egr tube. i got my timing componates from EB. realy looking forward to firering it up tommorrow
Might be able to loosen the intake to get her on...I had all those parts new so it went back fairly quick......EB sells quality parts.....My upper end is all ported polished, bigger TB and valves...pretty extreme cam, dual row TC,elec. ignition ect.
yea i was thinking about loosening the intake as well but that would be a real pia esp now that the upper manifold is back on. id almost rather cut the tubbing and use regular heater hose than take the manifold off again. first im going to take it off again and try to tweek it, its litterly off by about 1/8th of an inch.
yea i think we did hyjack the psd fourm...lol
i wish there was a fourm this good for toyota's theres a bunch of ***'s over at pirate and 4x4 wire is slow as hell
About 7 yrs on this one,3yrs since I made it a trail rig..The wife has a '74 fj40 trail rig.I also have a 86 turbo pickup and another 4runner sitting in the field.......and dare I say.....an '07 Tundra 5.7
