well i took the truck to pic up my son. smoke comes when accelerating. not while i coast. also noticed that smoke was coming from engine. i believe that its coming out of the rubber grommit on the passenger side mani. this was what led me to do the tune up in the first place. its a little black, 45 degree, on the mani. opposite side of the pcv valve. notice oil in it. seems things aint getting better.
what would be a good engine for swap?
trans?
would this motor and trans be worth spending money on? think if it was 350= more power, i might. but seems like its weak.
anyone got a clue what it would cost.
I cannot help but respond to your caption (Tried & Failed) You can only call it a failure when you give up trying. So I would say, it sounds to me like failure is not an option. You seem pretty determined. i hope this servs as words of encouragement.
IMO if I were in your situation of working the truck and also expecting a baby...congrats by the way...I would fix what you have as best as possible...as for the oil....is there an oil gauge by chance attached to it at all ??? Also, as I recall, GM small blocks were notorious for bad valve stem seals among other things...doesnt mean they are shot, but its a possibility...If the plugs you pulled out of it were wet and black and not gassy smelly ...my bet would be either a ring is bad or a valvestem seal....were all the plugs in the same shape that you pulled out ???
And since you say the same issue is still present...pull the new plugs and see what they look like....let us know and we can help diagnose from there...
As for some of us knowing a few things about GM...well...my father and I are definately more Ford whereas my uncle and his son are definately all Chev....so I got both bases covered as far as knowing or asking what a given rig is doing and how to fix.
btw...what year is the engine....if theres a manifold casting number, post it and the color of the engine...color would be a clue to its age if its original paint, but casting number will definately tell...also, as I recall, theres a flat machined area on the block right in front of the intake...there should be some numbers stamped there....post those as if its a transplant from another car/truck...that is where its VIN and other info would be at...
I inquired to my family memebers who are the Chevy fanatics...100% rings is the problem...not a shadow of doubt...I threw every scenario around...nothing but rings came up...
