EFI troubleshooting

Putting a 1990 302 engine in an old jeep. Engine will not start, believe I am not getting fuel thru injectors. Good spark, ECC checks good. Looking at injector connectors with vpwr on I get voltage showing on both return circuits to the computer, pins 58 and 59. Should the static vpwr voltage leak through the injectors? I used rebuilt injectors with multiple holes to replace the original single hole injectors. The harnes shows good isolation when all injectors are disconnected. pins 37/57 (vpwr) and pins 58/59 injector bank return to computer. Fuel pressure seems OK, new high pressure pump, have not tested actual pressure.

Any ideas or help appreciated,

weskay

What firing order do you have the spark plugs wired for? It should be 15426378.

You have the EFI distributor installed and connected? The TFI(ignition) module on the distributor is where the computer gets the timing reference to know when to fire the injectors and the plugs. This module gets a square wave pulse from a pickup inside the distributor that senses opening in a vane attached to the distributor shaft.

That is the firing order I am using. I also have manually set the timing to 10 deg BTDC and do not get any backfire or pop. The plugs are dry and my inductive timing light says we are getting spark to the plugs. Everything is new in the ignition system. Thanks for the reply. I do think our problem is in the fuel not ignition.

So.. did you use a complete wiring harness from a Ford vehicle for this swap?
What did the motor come from?
Is the wiring harness and computer from the same vehicle?
What is the impedance of the injectors? Should be about 15ohms.
Fuel pressure should be about 43psi engine off or vacuum removed engine running.

Have you tried to start it with any starting fluid or by using a bit of propane from a
handheld torch (not lit of course) into the intake then try to start (cheaper then buying
starting fluid!! works good for diagnosing them persnickity weedeater and small engines
just add some oil to the intake too for 2 smokes.
Have you checked out Fordfuelinjection.com or rjm Ford Fuel Injection EFI Performance Upgrades
RJM Injection Tech
I personally would build my own harness if you didn't buy a new ($$$$$) one and you
can use the digital camera and draw the harness out then basically do one wire at a
time. I would crimp and solder the contacts and use marine grade wire for a bulletproof
and harness that would outlive the truck.Wire for the wire
for the factory type contacts and waterproof to boot don't forget the dielectric grease
while you are going along Sherco Auto Supply
