Hey guys! I think this is the right forum to post this problem in, but if not bear with me here. We hooked up 2 subs in my truck last nite and tested them out for a few minutes and everything was fine. A little while later I went to leave and my truck wouldnt start! Any suggestions?
Sounds to me that your amp drained your battery. Try disconnecting the amp's power wire on the battery and get a jump start. Drive around for a while so your alternator will recharge your battery. Then only play your stereo when your truck is running. Is your amp hooked up with a remote wire, or does it stay on all the time? This could drain the battery also.
> That will drain your battery in seconds flat.....
??? you were joking right?
Even if your amp draws 5 amps when idle (normally they draw much less), and your battery is in good shape, it would take HOURS to drain your battery....
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 07-May-02 AT 07:19 AM (EST)]I was exaggerating to make a point.... Ive got to stop be so "literal" you stereo guys will eat me alive.
my amps draw over 5 amps. They are 860 watts each. Got 2. They drain my batteries pretty fast. I thank go deveryday for the dual setup. Really helps with a serious sound system.
Being an audio buff, let me tell you that dual/multiple batteries are only needed for playing with the vehicle not running. They also require other items such as isolators, adjustable voltage regulators, high out-put alternator, etc.
You said that you played it for only a short time. Was the truck running? How long is a short time?
How is the amp/amps wired? What size fuse is recommended at the battery for the amp? Important because that lets us know if it is straining your alternator.
For your battery to just drain means that the alternator was either not charging it or unable to keep up with the need while you were playing the system, the battery is shot or something is on while the truck is not running that is draining the battery.
Check to ensure that nothing is getting constant power even with the vehicle shut off.
I take it that you ment to say that your amps draw over 50 amps each.
There are a lot of variables for instance, what is your alternator amp rating, if it was to be say 60 and your amps are drawing a total of 100 amps then do the math.
