I started having a problem a few weeks ago and cannot figure it out. i will be driving down the road within 20 minutes of starting truck and the radio and all the gueages will shut off. The clock stayes on but no sound and no guages. has anyone else ever heard of this problem? I am at a loss and have no idea.
I had a 6.0 in a 2003 EXCURSION. There was a noted problem with one of the wiring harnesses. I could not see what was done, and they would not tell me, but all kind of crazy things would happen, like you describe, and my vehicle would actually stop, the engine would stop.
It was not a major problem, just a matter of relocating some wires, because the garage fixed it in about an hour.
If I were you, I would gather more info, as to when it cuts off and when it starts working again. With temperatures as hot as the record week we are having, a wire will expand with heat and possibly your truck was previously fixed, but maybe just not enough of a repair. Then find a good 6.0 tech to resolve. Good luck.
So was there a recall or something on it or did the shop just figure it out. It will only do this within the first 20 minutes of driving and then I can drive for hours and it does not do it again until the next day.
My neighbor had a similar problem. He took his F250 in to the Dealer after it left his wife in an intersection. I am not sure it was a Recall or not, because he took it in, but they fixed the problem. Something about a Cam Timing Sensor, there was no charge.

Back in 2003 with the early 6.0's, I honestly believe the dealerships were instructed not to write up corrective procedures. I keep every repair order on every vehicle, and I have nothing on this. The more I think about it, the problem was a pinched wire, along with heat or cold, would short out. Sorry that is the best I can remember.
I traded the 03 Excursion on a 05 F-350 at 35,000 miles when the Excursion had a sound like "wheezing death rattle" which I subsequently learned was the vanes in the turbo.
any idea where the wire was or what wire? i thought I had it fixed by cleaning alot of connections under the hood and then on friday we had like 100% humidity and it started doing it again. it would cut the power when I accelerated and when i let off it would come back on. after about 10 minutes of driving it all stopped and acted normal again. Has not done it since and it is now sunday afternoon. by the way happy fathers day to all the dads.

Best I can tell you is to go to top of this page. Click on TSB's. Go to 2003 Excursion or truck you have with 6.0. My Excursion had most of those problems. I think they flashed it 14 times. I gave up as I feel I would have won the Lemon Law filing I made, but at the time, FL laws prevailed and I would have had to pay 50 cents per mile with around 20K miles, maybe less, I forget, but it was a better deal for me to trade out. I think someone talked to the dealer where I bot my 2005 F - 350 and my headaches were gone.
I don't want to ever remember all those problems. Days and weeks at a time in the garage, and there was never anything wrong. The dealer in Clearwater, FL was a large dealer and I understand was eventually canceled because of customer service.
I tried to dog out the specific problem for you, but I am on the road with a wireless connection. If you have the time, you can find the answers in the TSB's above. Good luck.
Has anyone heard of there being trouble codes that will not set off the light and that only a ford dealer can pull? I was told this but it sounds bogus to me.
Ok, so that problem has pretty much gone away but now I have a new one. When cruising around 55 in overdrive if I accel just a little (not enough to downshift the automatic) the truck shakes alot. As soon as it shifts it goes away. If I drive with tow/haul mode on it never shakes. It will only shake when cruising and between 1500 and 200 rpms. Does anyone have any idea about this. It is also idling rough. I thought it was bad fuel so I ran it to the low fuel light, refilled with good fuel, changed both filters, and put some powerstroke fuel treatment in the tank. enough to treat 3 tank fulls.
