What happens if that "gate valve" is just flopping around loose not hooked to anything?
Would that effect performance?

Yes for sure ,like the others have said you really don,t need it but then again maybe you do for the winter months I know I like having it and have mine on a switch so I control it I don,t know how cold it gets there in BC in the winter but here in Northern ON. it gets cold and I appreciate it your

It sure will. If it's flopping around then nothing can control it. The control rod should be attached at both ends, if not, it may come on unexpectedly. You should wire it in the open position.

2 more questions?
I cant see the linkage but I can feel it.
It feels like its spring loaded?
Should I be able to just clip the linkage back on the ball on the gate?

I unplugged the wires and I think it ran worse so I plugged them back in.
So I want to try and hook up the linkage properly and see what that does.
