The thread size on most senders is 1/8:NPT. the same thread size as the test port. The length can be a concern. The Autometer and DiPricol gauges we sell all have short probes, but the ISSPROs are a bit longer. To prevent the ISSPRO probes from bottoming out in the port you should use 2-3 wraps of teflon tape and screw it in until snug. That's it. It only needs to be secure and not leak. The ISSPRO probes don't need to make metal contact for grounding because they have their own gnd. wire. If you are still concerne we sell an item called the sender extender that in essence lengthens the depth. DieselManor - Accessories

I bought/installed an Isspro kit from these folks and didn't have any problems with the trans temp sender bottoming out, and no leaks that I've noticed so far. I think it's just a luck of the draw thing.
The only probles we seen, and it's rare, is when people tighten them too much, causing the tip of the probe to contact inside the port. What then happens is the brass tip cracks and fluid starts leaking out where the wires enter the probe (in the potting compound of the sender). Like I said, it's very rare.
