Almost everytime my 2001 Exc shifts into overdrive, there is a rumble/shutter. If I back off the gas, it will instantly go away. I checked my U joints but they were tight. I did notice a little slop where the yoke went into the tranny ( I dont know if there should be any). The tank (as I call it) has 98000 miles and has been wonderful since I've owned it. A rear sway bar and bilstein shocks have been the only upgrades.
Sorry to leave out the details....2WD, V8 Gas. Not sure what tranny it has.
It's at my stepsons home tonight, ready to head to Florida @ 5:00 AM, 2 adults, 4 kids (and a full tank of gas}. Looks like I'll be driving a non-Ford for a week.
I,ve had the truck just under a year, and havent changed the transmisson fluid. I'll take care of it when it comes back home next week. Do you recomend one fluid over another?
I prefer Mobil 1 synthetic but it's not a huge deal. The stuff is only in there for 30K anyway.
MERCON is the old spec. When you flush and refill you can use MERCON (if you can find it) or the new reformulated MERCON V. If you do MERCON V make sure that you do a COMPLETE drain & refill + filter change. Just don't drop the pan and top off and mix MERCON with MERCON V.
