Ok I know I need an oil pan from a 351M but will a 351W work also or not? I also know I need a bellhousing for a 351W. Can I use the clutch for a 351M or do I need one for the W bellhousing? Is there any thing that I am missing please let me know thanks to everyone for ur help.
This is how it was put to me. A 351 C is a 335 series engine (351M/400) with a small block bell housing(302/351). Anything infront of the flywheel will have to be taken from a 351M/400, while the bell, fly, and clutch will have to be small block stuff. NOTE: This is based on an educated guess, i dont know for 100%, but i give it a 90%. I had two old timer JY guys tell me this info, and the rest came from a Ford engine builders manual.
no the 351w oil pan will not work, you will have to use the 351M pan, you use 302 motor mounts on that though.
And yes you will need the bellhousing and clutch off the 302 for that swap.
You can use the bellhousing off of a 300-6, 302, or 351W. They are all the same. Clevelands are a cool engine for sure to swap in, do you have a 2V or a 4V?
I have a 2V with 400 heads. Picked the whole thing up for 300 so I jumped on it but for it got away. Every one that I have talked to said I am going to love this motor in my F-150. Just want to make sure I have my ducks in a row before I shoot.
400 and 351c 2v heads are for all intents and purposes the same thing. although some people will try to do something like that as a sales point thinking that since they are good enough for the bigger engine they must be an upgrade for the 351 right?
'
But yes you will like it unless your doing a LOT of towing. the 351C2V is a great motor and will tow even better then a 302 will but it's not their strong point but dang do they run good.

Good 'ol Ford and their practice of updating part numbers for use as service part replacements or otherwise...
So what heads are on the engine now? Read on...
Originally:1970/72 351C 2V & 1971/72 400: D0AZ-6049-A, updated in 1971 to: D1AZ-6049-D.
In 1973, Ford replaced D1AZ-6049-D with D3AZ-6049-H.
And...in 1975, Ford replaced D3AZ-6049-H with D5AZ-6049-B.
So now...you have one cylinder head that replaced all the previous heads.
Being 400 heads, hopefully the latest castings, they should have inductioned hardened exhaust valve seats? Which is what you want, so the valves don't recess too fast while the unleaded liquid gold gets burned, heh.
The 351C's are my fav. engine-very interesting stuff. The 2V heads flow on par with alot of the aftermarket 302/351w heads from what I understand.
My first car was a 73 cougar w. 351C 2V auto, and 2.75:1 gears, single exhaust-all stock. My cousin had a 70 cougar w. 351W 2V auto, and 3.25:1(or 3.00:1, cant remember) gears, headers and dual exhaust. We raced a few times, he could get me off the start, but not for long-then I would run him down as the Cleveland started to wind up-my cousin wasn't happy after that. Both were old beater cars, but ran decent, and weren't smokers-good times!
I always thought it would be fun to jam a 351C into an 80's ranger, and go mess with them ugly 350 powered s-10's, hehehehe
Enjoy the Cleveland!
