I Have A 1997 F-150 4.6L 5 Speed 4x4 And I Am Fixing To Embark On An Engine Swap. I Will Be Placing An SVT Lightning Engine Under The Hood. If I'm Not Mistaken The Bell Housing Pattern Is The Same, If Not I Should Be Able To Figure Something Out. My Main Concern Is The PCM Configuration, Due To The Fact I Have A 5 Speed And The Lightning Is Automatic...What Could I Do To Not Screw Up The Function Of The Engine Due To The PCM Searching For A Trans. Signal? I Would Greatly Appreciate Anyone And Everyone's Input On This Concern And Any Other Comments About The Project. Thanks!
well your 5 speed wont take that power... no way no how.... so you will need the tranny from the lightning with it. When you get those you might as well get the ecm and all harness's that go with that tranny and engine... It should take care of your entire swap.. You will probably need a heavier fuel pump as well. I think the lightning has a larger one.
As For The Tranny I Had Actually Thought About The ZF-6 Or Quite Possible Building A Straight Shift Specifically For This Truck. I've Made A Few Phone Calls To JASPER And They Can Build Whatever I Want. I Absolutely Hate Automatic Transmissions, I've Never Owned One, And Hopefully Never Will. That's Why My Concern Is The PCM Searching For A Trans Signal. If Worst Comes To Worst I Will Send The PCM Off And Get It Re-Programmed. I've Got A Regular 5.4L But Why Settle?...Gas Ain't Gettin' No Cheaper, So What's Another Couple Miles Less Per Gallon?...I Mean Come On, A 4x4 5 Speed Lightning...How Kick *** Would That Be?
Let us know what you figure out... I was thinking about dropping a lightning motor into my '00. Or maybe at least a lincoln 4v 5.4. I already have a 2v 5.4, but it's getting a little tired. I'd love a z-f 6 but don't mind the 4r100. I think I'll have my hand full enough with the engine swap alone.
