The engine light is on on my 98 Ford F-150. Code reader says check TSB 98-06-11 and also says PO-171 and PO-174. Can't seem to find a service bulletin list. Would appreiate any help I can get.
Thank-you.
Take a look at the top of this forum. there is a pull down for "Recalls/TSBs" click there and then on Full Text TSBs. Also do a search for the DTCs that you have. there is a lot of information on the forum about those particular codes that you will find. It basically comes down to there being a vacuum leak. Good luck!
soapy water might work...do you find out what all the codes are? if you didnt let me know what ones you need i have a ford service cd that sould have the codes on them.
Easiest way to find a vacuum leak is with propane or some kind of MAF/TB cleaner that is flammable. If you hit the open leak the engine will rev. Soapy water works for pressurized leaks.
First off
You've got a code reader that references TSB's? way cool what kind and model.
Secondly
Seems like alot of the time when you get these 2 codes it turns out to be the 90 degree rubber boot (connector) on the PCV line has deteriorated and is sucking air, easy to check and repair.

90% (or better) that this is the problem. With odds like that, just check it first.
The code reader was at our local small auto repair shop in our small town, Brand ???. The mechanic ( a long time Ford Mec.) did spend a lot of time spraying something to find a vaccum leak, no luck. I will try again. They didn't have the ford TSB list that the reader flagged. I found the TSB was listed under 97 trucks. Maybe flagged cause it was order as soon as ordering was possible. Any it was for having the wrong air cleaner and MAF sensor, if it was wrong it should have flagged in the 1st 10 years.
Some of the suggestions were to clean the MAF sensor, I did as I had had a K&N filter on . Took it off now. Will try driving it as it take about 7 starts, 4or5 runs before the check engine light flags.
Thanks for now, I will keep you posted.
Bye the way this is one great site.
I must add that the local shop does not have all the latest ford equipment, but are trying. Also trying not to waste my money by putting the wrong things on. Went here because I trust them and it is almost 100 miles to a good ford dealership.
