I have a 2006 Escape and need the cruise control on/off switch on the left side of the steering wheel. It looks like this can be replaced without messing with the airbag etc. The wife got her ring caught in the button part and ripped it off the switch. The switch no longer "feels" like you are pressing a button and the cruise does not work. Fuses are ok. Not having taken this switch apart before I don't know if another piece fell out she didn't see or whatever. Doubt if Ford breaks it down anyhow. Does anyone sell Ford parts online?
I replaced the cruise switch on my 05. Both switches come connected together as one piece. The local dealer had to order it. I'm not sure of the cost as the used car dealer bought the part as part of the purchase agreement. The entire steering wheel comes off, air bag and all, by removing the plastic on the steering column, which exposes four small bolts. There is a small plastic cover on the bottom of the steering wheel too. (Turn the wheel 1/2 turn first to put the cover on the top) The switch is held in place with small screws.
That part might actually be a dealer item only being that it is so new. If they failed frequantly the after market should have some possibly. I havent worked at a parts place since last december when I was layed off. So I wouldnt know if any new items have came out in the aftermarket. For removal prodcedure check Alldata or Mitchell on Demand for instructions.
I replaced a cruise button on a Buick back when I was in school and ya had to remove the steering wheel center cover. Could be different or the same on a Ford.
