what kind of fuel mileage can you get with the dp on say 60 or 80?? i've been getting 18mpg with a little bit of city and mostly highway
I just posted the other day that I did 777 miles on 80 and got 21.6 mpg mostly city driving. I did about 400 miles on the 60 setting and got about the same. But I do admit to driving like I have an egg under my fuel pedal most of the time. Today I decided to play a little bit, which is the cause of me starting this thread in the first place.
All I can say about my old 80 horse Superchips is that it did give me much better mpg, but comparing the DP 80 to the Superchip 80 I would have to rate the Superchips more like what Barry said, maybe 20 horse. Other than the mpg, it's a joke and may have burned 2 transmissions for me.
Has there been alot of people out there that had problems with their tran,s going out from the Super Chips programmer? Because if thats the fact, i,m just going to have to tell the the wife about this and get a DP before my trans blows up.

Yes, in fact it is Internet information that was dug up by the man that rebuilt mine the last time. They are a known problem. I just learned too late.
Interesting to hear about the possible connection between Superchip tuners and tranny problems. I have 81K on my '03 and took it to the transmission shop today. We have been towing trailers lately, not heavy and not pulling hard. On the last trip, nearing the end of the drive, I noticed slipping from 2-3 but it would hook up and pull fine. The next day, after I took the trailer back to the rental place, I had a hard time getting 50 mph. The tranny shop couldn't get to it until today, so I drove it 20 miles home. Got hot before I got it home but driving it back today, it was fine. Shifted well and no heat. I put the tune back to stock and, boy, it didn't run like I was used to. We will see what the shop finds.
I would like to hear what problems others have been having with superchips and trannys.
Sorry to hijack the thread, Mark, but this info is new to me.
Well, thats good to know, been running mine 30,000 miles now. I hope i didn't screw anything up. I don't beat my truck at all, i mash on her to blow it out, but other than that, i tow about 3 or 4 times a year. Hooking the trailer later this week in fact. Hope everthing is ok with your tranny Mark, let us know what happens, might be moving the DP up in mods.
Jeez, you guys are too nice to your trucks- I don't drive it like I stole it (all the time) but I do like to get on it. I've been getting better though, I try not to back up traffic at every stop light with 120 anymore
As crazy as I was in my younger days I've got to marvel at this. DP's 120 HP setting actually startles me. I was merging onto I-85 this afternoon and nailed it just for the Hell of it, looked down at my speedo and was going 95 mph before I could even get over into the fast lane. Wow, I have yet to fool with the 140. But to merely say I'm impressed would be an understatement.
How much did that cost ya.....In diesel that is....

Yep....you drive like I do...
The best case is to get your tranny done before the tuner, but I got DP first, then did the tranny after. It is *WELL* worth doing it first though. The difference in the truck with SW tuned to a mod'ed tranny and one tuned to a stock tranny is staggering.
Hey Joe- how's it going out in the sandbox? I'm supposed to be going on a transition team in August- not concrete yet, but about 80% gonna happen. What the hell is a transition team? I'm an aircraft mech LOL....
I guess I'm one of the lucky ones with a former Superchip tuner. I ran it over 80,000 on my last truck, and about 63,000 miles on my current one. No tranny probs whatsoever. And the transmission pan was completely SPOTLESS when I did the John Wood Valve Body. Needless to say......that made me confident I'll get many many more miles out of my stock tranny! The JWVB should keep me rollin quite awhile I hope!

It's going okay. Keeping pretty busy, so the time is flying by quickly. There have been some grim events since I've been here (you can see what I'm talking about on the news), so it's tough in that vein. I've said it many times, but those guys out there chasing bad guys are some of the bravest guys I've ever met...
About that transition thing, my assumption is that you'll be working with what basically is your Iraqi counterpart to bring them up to speed. You'd think from watching the news lately (with few exceptions) that isn't actually happening. But I can assure you all that it is, and at a very good pace. It's sad that the Dems actually have a vested interest in us not doing well and/or keeping on schedule to win an election. Sure there are setbacks, but the overall pace is moving forward, and at a much better pace. If we were talking about the US 230 years ago, the press would be having a COW!! It took a whole lot longer than a couple years for our contry to settle into the democracy we enjoy, yet they expect miracles here. Knuckle heads...
Okay, off my soapbox....
Do you know where you'll be yet (as in which base)?

To bad there's no way I can think of to the get the mainstream media to print or broadcast a letter like this. Great post Joe.
