I recently aquired an 88 Ranger XLT.
I am not getting any power to the fuel pump and am not so sure that the wiring is up to par. Would it be OK to straight wire from the fuse or straight from the battery?
I would think you would have to go from the ACC. terminal on the ignition switch to work right. Otherwise the pump would run all the time. Just my 2 cents.
When you turn the key one click does the check engine light come on with the other idiot lights?
If it does'nt the problem could be with the main relay or ignition switch.
If the CEL does come on, you need to check for 12 volts at the
inertia switch. The switch should have voltage for about 2 seconds each time you turn the key from off to run.
X'r,
Since last night I spoke with the previous owner of the truck. I mentioned your advise to him. He told me that he replaced the ignition switch on the column and said that the connectors in the column hve come loose before. Duh! That would explain why the fuel gauge isn't working and why no power to the fuel pump.
