Lots of Static
I have a 78 F150 that we took off-roading a few weeks ago. We used 40 ch. hand-help CB radios to communicate between 3 trucks. In mine, I had the radio plugged into the cig. lighter for power and was getting tons of engine noise. The people listening to me said they heard the noise too and could hardly hear me.
When the truck is off it's prefect. So I figured it was in the outlet wiring. After trying several wiring options, I decided to use the batteries in the radio and not even connect it to the truck. That made NO DIFFERENCE. Engine off = radio perfect. Engine on = tons of static/engine noise.
I couldn't believe that I was getting that much static when it wasn't even connected. I even tried 3 different radios and no change.
Someone told me that I may not have "resistor" type spark plugs. I have Autolite plugs, but just assumed that ALL plugs are "resistor" type.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
