Satellite Dish Cable

Our dish went out. We had put it up in winter when the roof was all full of snow, and now with the trees all full of leaves the picture's going out and I had to go up and put it higher on the chimney. Only problem is now the wire's too short and we want to route it thru the basement. Can I cut the wire somewhere and splice in some more wire to make it longer? And is there parts to do this? And where do you get the wire and what is it called?

It's just coax cable. You can get cable and the ends for it at any Radio Shack.

they say you cant splice the wire but you can i have done it and it works just fine go get a joiner and another 25 ft of cable and move the dish.. just make sure you ground the wires up there cause it prevents the thing in the center ( forget its name) from getting fried in lightning storms

Get cable (assuming it is available). The company will do all that for you.

you can splice it, but it may be better to make it in one run, shouldnt be very hard to do

Satellite cable isn't regular coax cable, it's thicker than the regular stuff (RJ-5 I think). You shouldn't need to splice into it, just buy something like this and the length of cable you need. Best Buy Canada Web Store: Home Electronics: Video Accessories: Recoton "F" Jack To "F" Jack Adapter (V404)#

If you want to make the cable yourself the ends can be bought and need to be crimped in place.

They use Belden cable and Canare fittings.
