the other day i called hypermax and asked them about ther kit for the 7.3 idi, they clame that it puts out more horsepower and torque than the 1999 powerstokes they say it puts 270 hp and 520ftlbs what do yall think
definitely not that alone, maybe w/ fuel system work, pump, injectors stuff like that... I haven't even heard much of idi's putting out numbers that high on a dyno...
Fresh overhaul, new IP and new injectors with a good tune job, going from 185 to 270 is an 85 HP or 46% power increase.
I do think that is very doable.
Also remember those are flywheel numbers on an engine dyno, rear wheels numbers on a chassis dyno would be a different story.
I was talking with a friend the other night and we were talking about HP and torque.
HP is how hard you hit the wall.
Torque is how far you take the wall with you after you hit it.
thanks for the info im trying to decide what turbo kit to buy{ when i get the extra money} i really cant make my mind up do yall have any idea on what i could get
You could get that. These motors are about as low as they will go in these trucks. Companies won't push them hard because of the warranty issues with the other parts. For years Dodge ran the lowest rating on the B series motors.
i would look around for a used unit.
with the fact that our trucks are getting old and recycled, there are used turbo setups coming on the market for a good price.
in the past year, i have seen at least a dozen Banks and ATS IDI units sold for $500 and under.
