Hypermax Turbo Install

Well the truck was denied warranty work on the turbo due to aftermarket products. So i went the Hypermax H2E turbo route. I installed it myself even though Hypermax is right around the corner from me, i did go pick it up directly from them. The install was about 8 hours and i have some finishing touches to do, mainly the exhaust needs to be bolted back together correctly. I did drive the truck but it was cold and wet and i really couldnt and didnt want to get on it. So its supposed to nice tomorrow around me and i will finish her up and post an update.

Hypermax Turbo Install

Just curious. What happened to the stocker to require warrenty work?

I've heard the H2's can be a real PITA to install, I'm thinking about the new Garrett GTP-38R ball bearing turbo for when my stocker goes south (but I hope thats a long ways off still)

The impeller shaft on the stock turbo came loose. The turbo didnt lock up and still ran strong, but in time it will totally lock up. Mechanic said that the turbo could last in the condition maybe up to 3 years. Since the truck is used partially for work i could not let that happen. The main reason why they denied me warranty work was because i listened to my mechanic friend, he told me to leave all my aftermarkt stuff on the truck and he could work around it. Well i left it all and they threw up a red flag when coming across the boost tube, they said its a wastegate defeat device or something. They would have warrantied it if that was not there, and instead of taking it off and going to another dealership, and risk getting myself in trouble if they did a VIN search, i decided to go with the Hypermax turbo, reason being that the ball bearing that ATS has right now is not proven, its fairly new to the market, and the other reason for hypermax is that im luckly to live about 45 mins from there shop.

yep, they probably entered it into OASIS about 5 seconds after they saw the tube. You might try to find out, they may have voided your entire warrenty. :-(

You going to get some stage II's to feed that monster?

Another one of my mechanic friends at a different dealership is going to look up my VIN on the OASIS system and let me know what he finds. As far as the stage II's go, its not in the budget right now. The turbo really wasnt in the budget, but once the spring comes and i start making money again (landscaper and there is no snow yet) i think injectors will be next.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 24-Dec-02 AT 10:54 AM (EST)]The H2 is a very well put together package. It comes with the new downpipe, 3 1/2 inches, new intercooler pipes, new 4 inch intake pipe, new exhaust manifolds and all the stuff you need to install it. The install took me about 8 hours, but i have never done anything like this before. I took my time hoping not to mess anything up. I also did not have a shop, i did it in my buddies driveway at night from 6:30PM til 3:30 AM. But i only ran into a couple minor problems, which are now resolved. Exhaust was hitting upon shuting down the engine which resulted in a large clunking noise and it really sounded like the engine was falling apart, secondly, the exhaust manifold bolts have to be really tight or you will have exhaust leaks, lastly the gasket on the oil supply drain on the bottom of the turbo takes some finessing to get in place, i had it put in wrong and leaked some oil. Besides that, the truck now runs great, gets 30 PSI(i have no injectors yet), i think i have minimal turbo lag, it whistles and sounds really cool and hopefully i wont blow up this turbo like i did the stock ford. I think i included everything, if you want email me and i can scan and send you a copy of the instuctions and there is also a pic of all the parts included with the H2. Happy Holidays.

On Edit: Also Dale you might want to call and talk to them, they are very nice i called Hypermax 3 times one day and a couple times the next day, very helpful. You might want to ask about the H2 for the 95-97 stroker. I know somethings are different. I remeber the guy saying that there is a lot less room for the exhaust manifolds and such, but hey, why dont you drive the truck down here by me, i live 45 mins from Hypermax, and then when your having them install it ill take you to lunch.

Dave, is the boost tube for the boost gauge? If so, it doesnt seem right to void the warranty because you have a boost gauge.

No the boost gauge and boost tube are two different things. The boost tube goes on the wastegate between the red vacuum line and the acutal wastegate. It has a little hole drilled in it to let a little pressure (air) escape so the wastegate does not open as soon and you get more boost out of the turbo.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. Gotta ask the dumb questions sometimes.
