[updated:LAST EDITED ON 08-Aug-02 AT 04:06 PM (EST)]I have a 2000 Expedition and I'm wanted to change out the factory speakers. I am keeping the factory radio and everything just the speakers are getting changed. I was wanting to know from everyones experience doing this, what you have and recommend going with.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 08-Aug-02 AT 11:02 PM (EST)]if u are going to replace ur stock speakers u wont get the full sound out of them becuz the factory radio wont be able to put out enought power. also u will be held back by the lack of features of a factory unit. but if i had any suggestions i would go with pioneer, they are a good brand that has been around for a long time and they sound good. as a side note, if u want the full sound out of ur speakers u plan on installing u might want to look into an external amp for the most enjoyment from ur speakers.
When we replaced the deck in our 2001 Expedition, we went ahead and replaced all the speakers with Pioneers as well. Made an enormous difference in there. The sound is crisp and clear. Now If I could just talk the wife into throwing out the third seat in place of a sub box...........:-staun
it´s the best you can do, stock speakers sound ugly.
I bought 4 6 1/2" 400W Xplod series and going to replace tomorrow.
I´ll tell you about my results next monday.
Brad2000-I replaced my factory speakers with pioneer 3 ways. I will have to look at the old box and see what models they were. I am not sure about the 2k Expys but in my 97 there were different mounting depths from the front speakers to the back speakers. In other words the rear speakers required "thinner" speakers or speakers with a smaller mounting depth although the diameter is the same. The best bet is to go to the crutchfield site and see what will fit.
I still have the factory deck in mine and it sounds pretty good. I had the "premium sound" system which was not very premium but I did read that the "premium sound" system had a stock 40 watt amp. Mine sounds good enough for me but if you are looking for a sound system that will shake the house you will have to upgrade further. I got great highs and decent bass.
I would start with the speakers and if you want more sound you can then start replacing the deck, adding amps, subs, etc.
