Ya wrestling the stock muffler alone was a challenge, a tag team partner would have been nice. Why would you go to a 5" exhaust? Are you planning on doing some serious upgrades? Making over 500hp? I have heard the 5" vs the 4" and I personally like the way the 4" sounds a little better. And as for the T409... it looks like crap. I wish I went with the 304, or painted the aluminum like you did. Did you use BBQ paint?
One more thing, the pipes have an oil film from the manufacturing process that lines the inside of the pipes. When you start up for the first time after install, you'll have smoke coming from the exhaust as the oil burns off. It will slowly dissipate and go away once all the oil residue is gone.
dfooch just did it yesturday couldn't tell you but i dont see why it would chip or ware off. Another FTE guy on this site did it he had it for a year he said it still looks good.
I have this system.. take the advice SAWZALL the down pipe.. its a b.... to get out! I allso had to relocate the stock hanger on the tail pipe (the very back hanger) do to it hitting the shock. I get loud turbo whine it sounds kick *** everyone makes jokes that it sounds like a jet. Good luck and enjoy. Let us know how you make out.
Had to postpone the installation today, due to my buddy having get called into work and I dont feel like trying to put this thing in while it is on the ground so we are going to attempt to put it in next Saturday. I will have sawzall in hand. I will post results when it is completed.
Well, due to time constraints, I was unable to put the exhaust system in myself, however, I was able to get a buddy (ASE cert. mechanic) to put it in for me.
When he completed the install, he called me to let me know it was finished. After calling me a few choice words not fit for print on this web site, he stated not to ever bring him a job like that again. I asked what the problem was and he stated the usual... downpipe removal and install. He also had a problem aligning the system up properly so that there was no rubbing or rattling.
Anyhow, after financially compensating him for his time and effort, his bloodpressure finally came down to normal and I was thankful I didn't attempt this myself. My truck has a sweet whistle to it now...
