As in, what do you drive to work or whatever you do? List your everyday car that you use besides your V10
I cruise a '99 Escort ZX2 to work, 2.0 DOHC with a 5-speed, Sirius and complete with non-working AC and fart can muffler (cheaper than stock) it's got nearly 178,000 miles on it now and I'm fixing the AC this weekend since the district is supposed to hit 93 on friday and a whole lot hotter next week.
I also added a home-made cold-air setup and deleted all the intake silencers to help mileage some. I get 34mpg with it and it's actually kinda fun to drive, like tearing through the city in a go-kart.
The new V10 is my everday drive, of course I work offshore so I fly to work.
My other ride is a bmw r1150rt motorcycle, that I can use if I am concerned about mileage, or the weather is good, Also have a 22' Sea Hunt boat, that doesnt count till we geta place on the water as i have to take the truck to the marina. but in another year or two hopefully that will be docked in the bnack yard so it can count as alternative transportation.
A recent addition to my stable is a 2008 Mazda3. 2.0, 5 speed, roll up winows (yep manual cranks), no power locks and no ABS. It does have A/C and a CD player. Gets about 35 MPG on the highway. It was $11,800 brand new. Pays for itself in fuel savings from letting the F250 rest 4 days a week.
i've got my 06 fusion 2.3 5 speed that really showed me how quick 4 cylinders can be. thats my daily driver. also have a 79 yamaha xs650, and my 46 hudson commodore 8 in the garage.
We still have a 01 Oldsmobile Alero Sport Coupe thats up on blocks at our home base (have to save them GY Eagle tires)and use a 88 Oldsmobile Quad 4 Coupe that is my Mothers when we are in OR (she stopped driving and that a good thing).
03 VW Jetta GLS TDI 5spd. [Turbo Diesel Intercooled]
6L/100km [40mpg US] range on a 55L tank is 900 to 1000 km. [550 to 620 miles]
14.5 gal US to fill you get 550+ miles per tank. Around town commute
The other thing is there is a loyal following and web resources just like with our trucks.
This thing saves me about 9000 bucks a year in fuel costs over 40000km
[25000 miles].
Daily driver is 05 F150 2wd short bed...with the 4.6L...
MPG TIP!!! Seen a milage improvment a little over 1 mpg once i ditched the steel wheels and and replaced with other Ford alum..wheels...
Steel wheels were almost 20lbs heavier each.....ie takes fuel to move weight..
ps. V10 still kicks ace for towing and good power....
I have 2003 Mazda Protege5 I bought new. 5-Speed manual and all the standard creature comforts (AC, power windows and locks, etc) and a Sirius Sportster. Currently have 119,000 miles on it and average 32MPG. Had the timing belt replaced by the dealer and I have done normal maintenance (filters, oil, plugs, battery, brakes, etc). Need a new clutch soon and keep blowing head light bulbs but other than that it's trouble free.
I travel all over the country so I fly allot but if I can drive somewhere within 6 hours I usually do. Had a lot of those trips in the last few years so I been racking up the miles. Been a good car and always got be home.
Daily driver is my SC SD V10. 2nd vehicle is a 74' F-100.(Pics in Gallery) The price on that Mazda 3 sounds pretty tempting and I must say they are nice looking cars.
My 01 F250 BSEG is the daily commuter to work. Wife can't drive a stick and I don't want to drive her Caravan. I am looking for a cheap beater to start commuting in if anyone has a good enough one for sale around Raleigh, NC.
'97 Mercury Cougar 30th Anniversary Edition 4.6L comes with Sport package.
Love it's handling, somewhat decent power, etc. Since I changed the intake (cracked) to an aftermarket, and did some porting to it, it's got some decent high-end power.
Just yesterday, an Acura started being aggressive trying to pass me on the highway. No problem, moved over, let him by.
Later on when traffic thinned out, I got up near him, he was passing trucks on the right (stupid) and I got next to him again. Hit the OD button, put the pedal down, and while he was trying to keep up, I kept walking away all the way up to 106MPH (the speed cutoff).
