Can you gys help me decipher my VIN? The only number I can find is in the glove box and the plate is screwed on, not riveted. I cannot locate a number on the firewall or the frame, although I have not cleaned the frame yet. It would be nice to know whereabouts on the frame to look.
My plate goes something like this:
I don't know where to look on the frame, but I'd clean it up real well and try to find it, because that screwed-on plate sounds a little fishy. Check out Earl:
I have a 51 F1 and the #s are on the right front of the frame near where the stock motormounts were. My glove box plate was also screwed on and I am only the third owner and I took off the original paint engine and trans so I am pretty sure Henry did them this way.
Can you gys help me decipher my VIN?

3D166 = Don't know, parts catalog sez Production Code & Domestic Order Number, but digits don't match.
The Standard Catalog of Light Duty Ford Trucks (krause.com / ISBN: 0-87349-411-3) sez for 1952:
The Serial Number is located on the glove box door and on the left side of the frame near the steering gear mounting.
The above reference also sez that paint code D is Alpine Blue. The 1948/56 Ford Truck Parts Catalog (where all the above codes were decoded from) sez: Woodsmoke Grey.
I found a site that explained the Production Codes but I'll be darned if I can find it again. It's the only one I have ever seen. Bill gave you the main parts.
As far as I can remember, the "3D166" Is the series for that plant.
3 = the 3rd (day of the month)
D = April 1951, and
166 is the 166th vehicle either started or finished that day. Don't remember.
