I have a stock CD Player in my truck from the factory and I was wondering if there was a way to plug something into the back to run an Ipod through the radio or if I would have to buy the radio tuner kit thing.
If it doesn't have an "AUX" button then you can't hard wire it to the deck via rca cables if that is what you are asking. You will have to go with a radio transmitter style of ipod kit instead.
I got one of the radio tuner types recently and I would caution you a little on them if you aren't familiar. First, you really have to be out of the city environment or else it is really hard to get a decent station to patch in to. Second, no matter what you find, you are essentially listening through a station with static - in mine I can always vaguely hear the static - sometimes more than others.
On the plus side, if travelling in the rural areas it gives you access to your iPod. But, if I was more inclined, I think I would have saved the $60 I spent and put it toward a radio with an Aux port.
im not sure if i had the same thing as posted above, but they sell a kit, it wires in to the factory CD player, the CD player thinks its a 6cd changer, so it works off of the CD button, it worked good BUTTT i had a ton of other stereo/sub equipment all tied in with mine so it came down to the bottom line and the smart choice was to just pick up a 200buck aftermarket mp3/ CD deck and scrap the 120dollar mess of wiring harnesses...
I know that many people are able to buy kits to hook into an OEM stereo's CD changer port if they don't have a CD changer to plug into an ipod etc with a 3.5mm headphone type plug. much better sound quality than an FM modulator anyway - just couldn't have a CD changer hooked up in that case is all. I'm not sure of the availability for Ford stereos though but I know they exist for other makes.
I had a stock deck in my 97 with a tape deck and 6cd changer. Borrowed sister in laws cigarette lighter thing for my ipod and it sucked in san antonio. Interference like crazy so i bought a tape deck adapter for $15 and it worked great. Recently however I re-installed my Alpine and just bought the ipod wire. Now i can flip through songs, folders via my remote so no more squinting at the screen while driving.....sorry if i ever swerved at anyone
I use a MONSTER wireless transmitter for my Ipod. it works beautifully, of course, it has to be tuned to the proper station. I started out with it when I was living in the Houston area - no problems. I've recently moved to San Antonio - still no problems. as a matter of fact, I only have to change frequencies once for the 188 mile trip between these 2 cities. the only time I get static is when I get too far from the frequency, like when driving between San Antonio and Corpus Christi - the station will start to fade once I'm in the downtown area of Corpus. I didn't want to invest any monies in a "new" radio for my '99. however, the MONSTER is about $90. but well worth it.
