iPod plug

I saw a kit on fleabay, that plugs into the back of the radio, and then you can hook up your iPod. Then you can controll the iPod with the radio controls. I have a 2003 EB with the 6 disc, in-dash radio and also the rear DVD system. Do these things work?

Not sure what kit you mean but, I can tell you how I use my ipod in my truck. I bought an rca plug adapter it plugs into the aux rca jackson the dvd player. Its easy quick and cheap the only down side is it doesn't charge the ipod

Sound like a plan. I'll try that.

Coincidentally. I was calling around checking on this yesterday, trying to find a way to hook up an IPod to my EX also. I also have the 6 disc in dash and the factory DVD player. From what I was able to understand, the problem is that the DVD uses the port in the back of the radio that most or all of the aftermarket, hard-wired, Ipod connecting devices would use. Because of this, I was told that there just isn't a device that can connect this way to the radio that you and I have. There is one solution though that works pretty well, from what I am told. I spoke with a gentleman by the name of "DOC" at installer.com in Houston TX, (phone 713-626-7628), and after explaining why most of these won't work with my radio he suggested a device called an FMM-100, which sells for $59.95. This device is an FM transmitter (yes, eeww) but it hooks in-line with your antenna connection in the back of the radio, so it does away with the static problems that you normally have with these stupid FM transmitters. I imagine that sound quality won't be as good as the other types, but at least it should work consistently. He said there is a switch on it, that gives you two different frequencies for it to transmit on. There is also an available charge cable to hook up so that your Ipod will charge while it is playing .... this is another $38.95. Doc is a terrific gentleman, very knowledgeable, and easy to talk to.

If anyone knows of hears of something better, please post it, I'd like to know. At some point I will replace the whole system with something better, but that is a ways off, and I am just hoping to be able to reliably connect my Ipod in the mean time

Mike

I have the same 6-disc stereo and factory dvd i tried the fm trans and hated the static then I inquired about a aftermarket stereo. I tried crutchfield who has always been very helpful in the past. They said w/ that factory set up the rear radio controls will not work and the dvd player will not play through the speakers something about the factory dvd harness not being compatable w/ aftermarket. So i went w/ the rca adapter set me back a whole $15 no removing the stereo or anything sounds crystal clear. The dvd monitor even goes into sleep mode so its not on the whole time your in aux mode

Did you try one that simply transmitted through the air, or one that plugged in-line with the antenna cable? Thanks!!!!!!

There are kits that hardwire directly into the 6 disc changer, I just installed one and it is a direct wire to the back and charges the ipod. I posted the manufacturer and install thoughts back when I did it, so a quick search will provide a couple of hardwire options. I am heading out for the weekend and can find the post next week, but it should be easy to find with a search for ipod. Easy install and works with the steering wheel controls, etc...

Thanks, the reason that I am asking is that my experience over FM is pretty bad also, but I hope that this unit might work better since it is in line with the antenna port on the radio, and not simply "through the air" in the car

Yes, but does yours have the DVD option? By my little bit of research, this is the problem. On the other hand, if you have found one that works with our type of system, that would be really great! Mike

I just did a look back at your post on the old thread you mention here, and the device you mention is not compatible with an in-dash 6 cd changer, which is what I have. I am guessing that since you are a 2002, that year had the 6 disc changer external to the dash. This is the type of problem that I have had in finding a good Ipod connecting device, everywhere I look, I hit a wall of some sort. Thanks though! Mike

I suggest getting an alpine They have the ability to connect xm radio, bluetooth, and usb, if you want to really go techy you can get a usb hub and run usb cables to each row so that people in the back can use the radio and controls that are already installed.

I have mostly looked at Kenwood to date, do you feel that Alpine is better quality and/or sound?? Thanks!

I have never tryed kenwood, my alpine I got just because it gave me better options for connection types like usb, bluetooth, and xm. Sound quality is good enough more me. They are coming out with a pandora version for internet radio soon so unsure on audio quality for that one.
