Has anyone tried using a small sandblaster with their home compressor?
I have a 150 lb campressor, would this be enough to remove small areas of paint/rust from my car?
150 psi means virtually nothing on a compressor. What you need to know is the airflow at the pressure your tool operates. And sandblasters use a LOT of air.
You'll be dollars ahead to just use a cheap random-orbit sander (electric) with fine-grit paper for small areas.
It's about the CFM; 8 CFM is about the minimum. But, you may get away with a smaller capacity compressor if you just need to clean a couple of square inches and have a big air tank.
There are places you just can't reach with a sander, like around louvers, or tight corners and recesses.
I smoked my compressor pretty bad running a small sandblaster, and it is a 60gallon 6 or 7 cfm, I don't remember the specs exactly. But after about two hours, it started knocking and compressor was extremely hot.
Small areas should be ok.
