Don't flame me, Im illiterate when it comes to sound systems.
I want to run a sub(s) probably 10". I'm either going with ROCKFORD FOSGATE HE2 RFP3210 or JL 10" W3 D4
(both seem to be offered at a good price)
Now I'm wondering what the best way to power these are?
Mono or 2 channel amp? and if mono, how do you tie both in to the amp?
Remeber, Im a self admitted idiot when it comes to this stuff , any help or input is welcome and appreciated.
ok the power rating on the rockford fosgate sub are:400 rms (constant) and 800 max. what type of truck are u installing this in? how much money do u have to spend? all i could say is get one 10" and get a rockford fosgate punch 400S amp. this is a 2 channel amp, but u can bridge it (combime the positive one channel and the negative from the other) and run one sub off it. to run to subs u can hook them up in a series. if u want to get a mono amp i would suggest a rockford fosgate power 500bd and run it to 2ohms to get the full 500W. u can also run this in a series. correct me if i am wrong, but i would go with the punch amp and bridge it, and one 10" unless u have a lot of space.
Two 10" subs would sound very good in your truck. If money is any concern I wouldn't buy the RF amps. There are a lot more quality amps out there for less money. If you would like recommendations let me know.
try e-bay, they have stuff for cheap. make sure u look for new, never opened, with factory warrenty. if u have the room then go for 2 10"s. another good amp brand is MTX mono series, or PPI. i found all my stuff on e-bay for around $400 and retail is like $900, so id give them a try.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 10-Oct-02 AT 06:15 PM (EST)]Thanks to both of you guys, money is always a concern, but only finding it, not spending it I figure I will go around $500.
Hope to get above average stuff.
Right now I have 4 Infinity 572.5cf , a Alpine cda 7894 hu, and a Sony XM-1505SX 5/3 Channel Amplifier.(which I don't like due to it's size and would like to replace)
So I will plan on two 10" subs, is a mono amp the way to go and if so do I need 1 or 2?
Sorry Optikal, I missed you last night, I got side tracked and did'nt get in till late.

a "mono" amp means that it only has one channel, ie. it only powers one speaker. likewise, a two channel amp powers two speakers, a four channel amp powers four speakers, etc. if you are planning to hook up two 10's, u will need a two channel amp.
in my opinion, however, i think you should look into getting one 12" sub. you will get better bass response, meaning lower bass, and it will be much more easy on the wallet. power it with a mono amp running at least 200 watts rms.
actually 2 10"S would be better for a number of reason, less space for the box, cheaper, and tighter bass over one 12". nething over 2 10" is overkill for most people. i have a 12" in my 93 f-150 regular cab and my seat is moved up a lot.
My advise is to use your current amp to power your infinities. I have for of those in my Crew Cab and love them. Get yourself 2 10's and look for a model that will perform well in a small box. I personally have two Image Dynamics IDQ10's. Buy ONE mono amp to power them. I have a 600w amp powering mine. Just make sure to match the ohm load of your subs to your amp. For more info check out sounddomain.com you can find the answers to all of your questions there. Spinks
As for the amplifier, I would get a class d. They are more efficient which means they dont draw as much current to do the same job. You can find a pair of he2 10s for probably 250 and a used 1000 watt amp for around 300, maybe less. As for subs: get dual 4 ohm voice coils. If you wire the positives of each sub together and the negatives together, then the two subs together, you will have a 1 ohm load. Most class d amplifiers put out their power at 1 ohm. Some put it out at 2 ohms.As far as amp suggestions, Memphis 1000d crossfire vr, cfa, or bmf1000 they are all the same amp, but the cfa is the oldest followed by the bmf and the new model is the vr. Also look at a dei 1100d and the new viper amps are good too.
You have PLENTY of room for 10s or 12s, but the tens will sound pretty good with the power from any of the afforentioned amps. Dont worry about giving the subs a little more than their RMS. They can take more in a sealed box. Subs like clean power, but when it starts distortiing is whne it gets dangerous for your subs.
Just remember that the gain is not a volume control (it is more like the gear ratio in the rear end of a truck).
So, 2 he2 10s and a 1000 watt class d amp. ebay has good deals so you may hit them up.

I don't know about you, but I see a few potential scams on ebay. Especially for companies who do not have internet sales. JL for has training classes for their sales reps to teach them about the product they will be selling. Can you honestly say that the people selling stuff on ebay are not using refurbs or repcked items. I would think they won't tell you honestly. I'll pay a little bit extra to know what I am getting. Its just me, but I don't know about all this ebay. After all, they are trying to make the product appealing to you so you will buy it. Words like "factory-sealed","full warranty", and "brand new" look great to the buyer, but can you be sure you are getting what you are being promised? I know I can't. Thats my food for thought. Man, I'm cranky today. Sorry.
