I have been burning oil for over a year now. and must I say with these high fuel prices. its acutally cheaper to take my truck than my motorcycle.
for the Fords this site is by far the best I have seen or read anything on. and YES I have seen adn even installed two. my system is part of this, and home made (with help)
I have no idea. I was on google and searching for something completely unrelated. I am always going 90 miles a minute, I was at work actually formatting a big Excel macro at the time..I search for things and learn about things on the internet while I am doing some of my necessary mind-numbing stuff at work.
Bad fuel will hurt any engine. That includes bad #2 diesel.
Good to know. I see the benefits of bio vs. WVO, I just thought I would see who was doing it and to see what you guys thought. I have to rattle all of the options around in my brain before I can make a decision.
when I was on the fence between bio and SVO. I really didn't want to mess with all that chemistry.
so I opted for the duel fuel. and the only place the VO meets with diesel is in the rails on the heads. so if I ever run out of VO, I can resort back to Diesel.
that site I mentioned before is very "refined" system and pretty sweet. Auto is what it means. that system is very user friendly.
I thought I read somewhere that some guys think the unprocessed WVO can actually cause damage.? I was curious about that.
Unprocessed WVO has glycerine in it which will really gum up the works unless the fuel system and engine have been modified to handle it. A biodiesel reactor basically displaces the glycerine with an alcohol, usally methanol.
It's just the collecting, filtering, waiting, fuel system modifying, heating, cleaning, inspecting, filtering, lifting, installing, monitoring, worrying, and constant babying of the process.
If you supply hot, clean, pure WVO to the heads at the proper PSI, never a problem.
Any deviation from those conditions, and she goes south.
I used to burn WVO in an old '90 7.3 idi,
Just recently thinkin WVO again.........

WRONG!
Vegetable oil does not contain any glycerin. It does contain a glycol molecule that through the BD transesterfication process is transformed to glycerin and dropped out during the reaction.
What mixture of filtered WVO can be just mixed right into the tank, nothing else done? Even possible?
I prefer to mix outside of the tank in a 55 gallon drum, really polish the fuel by recirculating it through some filters rated for 1-2 micron and then put it into the truck once I know it's well mixed.

Oops, you're right. That'll teach me to attempt providing factual information after a few beers.
Happy reading. but just remember its not for everybody. oil collecting, storage, filtering etc.
Well I talked to my neighbor tonight...she's the one that owns the restaurant. She said they end up with 10 gallons of WVO every day. WTF am i going to do with 70 gallons a week? Holy crap. She says I am welcome to it for free and that I have her promise that used oil is mine for as long as I want it! I'd say, for me, the collecting is the easy part.
I told her in exchange, i'll help her haul some heavy stuff around with the PSD, they own the house next door and they've been doing a lot to fix the place up. She got excited when I told her I'd help them haul landscaping supplies, they were looking at having to rent a truck to get it done.
Another surprise is that she is actually paying to recycle her WVO. She ALSO said one of her very best friends is a mechanic and he specializes in biodiesel and getting everything set up to brew. I think I stumbled on a good thing here.
We filled a tank on a friends truck yesterday. It was the most disgusting WVO I have seen in a while. It smelled like vomit and poop mixed together, he put it in a stainless steel drum and cooked it. Man what a difference it made, the oil was clean and smelled decent. Since it was warm it pored real easy and we were able to filter it with no problem. He was driving that truck all day today with no problems.
