lights on beeper..
I have an 86 f150 and there is no alarm sounding when I leave the lights on. I am usually pretty good about turning them off but I was wondering how I could hook up an alarm to it so I dont run into the problem of draining the battery by leaving them on and not knowing it.
Thanks guys and gals.

I would pick up one of the Headlight Reminder kits (from GM) that are readily available on ebay for minimal dollars.

The Truck should already have one.
Headlamp on Warning Buzzer, Key In Ignition, and Seat Belt Warning buzzer is one unit on a 1986.
It's located above the glove box liner under the dash.
Perhaps someone unplugged it?

Ditto! I found my buzzer unpluged and taped to the wires! If it is missing you can pick one up from a junk yard!

When did they add the headlights and seat belts? My 84 only works for the key.

In 1984, (1984-1986) Headlamp on, Seatbelt, and Key in ignition, were one unit, and was standard equipment.
1980-1983, Headlamp on Buzzer was optional, seat belt standard, two different buzzers. No key in ignition.
Hope this helps.

Could anyone take a pic of that plug so I know what I am generally looking for? I don't have a seatbelt buzzer but than again I might have unplugged that right behind the seat, I dont remember. Key in ignition buzzer, um can't say i have one cus when i leave the keys in it there is no buzzer. Than again someone might have unplugged that too since I dont need the key to start it anyway.

Take your glove box insert out and look. You can't miss it if it's there.
You can also access it by taking the dash pad off. It clips in right over the top center of the glove box insert.

Here is a rough schematic for behind the dash for a 1980-1983.
The only difference is the Headlamp on, and seatbelt buzzers are combined on the 1984-1986.

Funny, I had one of them once a Chev.. "Shove-IT" or "chevette" for those who never had the pleasure of pushing one most of its life.
Was on the hook more miles than I drove it and things worked when they wonted and most of the time they did not!

You can verify you have got the right buzzer by touching it while it buzzes.

Red/Pink wire, comes from Driver door jam switch, to headlamp on buzzer.
1984-1986 Buzzers are combined and are one unit.
1980-1983 White buzzer is headlamp on buzzer, green buzzer is seat belt warning.
