Your TPS runs through a circuit in your PCM also.
Thanks Fatal Errorz.

Yes, the soft gas pedal and harder to stop aspect both started together on 5/30. The idle does seem to be running low, not enough to make her stall, but low enough that I can barely tell the truck is running most the time and requires a bigger jump in rpms to get going or to accellerate.

When taking a ride with the service foreman yesterday I did request that they reflash the PCM so the truck would relearn my driving characteristics. They said they'd do this anyways, but I also requested them to update the programming/software with any new releases/updates for my year/model. I've seen many people here inform new owners of used F150's to do this so the truck can relearn all driving habits, instead of running on the prior owners habits.

Just about 10 minutes ago the service advisor called, stated they couldn't find a problem and the truck is ready for pick up. Verified they did reflash the PCM, but unsure if there were any software updates. I'll check the work order upon picking up the truck. Now he did state if the problem persists, to make another appointment and take another ride with the service foreman. Truly I'm hoping this PCM reflash and/or software update corrects the issue, but we won't know until I take her for a ride. The "Works" package cost me an additional $5 this time around ($47.50), when it used to only cost $42.50. I'd assume this is due to the rise in oil costs.

We'll keep everyone up to speed on the results once I have the truck back in my posession. Should be picking her up around lunch time (12:00pm MST). I'll be glad to return this Focus loaner. Nice on the mpgs, but way to small and under powered for my taste. Plus I can't fit three kids (2 in car seats) and my wife in it all at the same time.

Thanks again FatalErrorz & Twinsdad98 for your advice and suggestions. I get so much great advice here, I don't know what I'd do without FTE anymore.

Okay got the truck back and here are the results.

They couldn't find any problems what so ever with the brakes or rpm/tach issues. Now they did reprogram the PCM to the latest calibration and also performed TSB #06-19-03, which is listed below. I had looked into this TSB when trying to determine the problem myself, just didn't know if that was part of my problem or not, but it didn't sound right.

06-19-3***SERVICE CALIBRATION UPDATE - HESITATION ON ACCELERATION ON DOWNSHIFT - 5.4L 3V

Now on the short trip between the dealer and work, the truck seems to be running like a champ. Not sure how or why, but the brakes feel about right as does the acceleration and firmness of the gas pedal. Also the idle seems to have picked back up maybe 100-200 rpms compared to when I took the truck in, which you can feel the motor running when stopped again. I'll wait to say she's cured until I have plenty of time to test the truck, say the rest of this week, weekend and maybe some of next week.

Crossing my fingers that everything's okay, but we'll let you know if not. Thanks again to all those that helped, it's greatly appreciated!

Glad to help. With about 99% certainty, I can say that reflash will clear your problem up. the shop I'm at is a cross between Monster Garage, and a combined Ford, GM dealership....But we actually know what we're doing...lol Occasionally our dio times may run a little long, but it's better than a return trip with the same symptom.

Okay, I've driven about 20-30 miles since picking up the truck yesterday and so far I'm loving it!!! Upon acceleration the RPMs gradually raise rather than automatically jumping to 2K. Plus I don't hear the big woosh of the intake sucking down tons of air. I am no longer hitting 2K RPMs in city driving, max I've really hit in this 20-30 miles is 1700-1800 (last marker prior to the 2K RPM marker). Also have to use a lot less force to brake. I'm wondering if now that the motor is running in more accurate RPM range, it's providing more drag when letting off the gas, requiring less braking force to stop. So there may never have been a brake issue, all dealt with the engine issue not running within optimal range. After the TC locks up, RPMs now drop to roughly 1.2-1.4K rather than the 1-1.2K. As stated in the last post, idle looks to be running slightly higher, 100-300rpms. I'll keep an on performance over the next couple weeks, but if she continues how did yesterday/this morning, then it's cured!

Appreciate your knowledgable experience FatalErrorz. I do hope this reflash fixes the issue, which so far it has. I'm with you on the DIO times. Rather have the shop/dealer keep the truck an extra couples hours or days and thoroughly investigate into the problem rather than run thru tests, say nothing is wrong and send you on your way, only to have the problem persist.

If the problem doesn't come back in the next couple weeks I'm gonna call the dealer and compliment/thank Adrian (shop foreman) and the techs for resolving the issue. They may not have done much other than the TSB, but they deserve the congratulations and support. People (myself included) often don't give these guys enough credit for what they do and how they help out the consumer. I know I hated driving the truck the last couple weeks because of this problem, but now want to go out and take a long road trip since I've got that driving ich knowing the truck is running good.

We'll keep you posted!
