I have done about a million diffrent searches on various threads and can't seem to find any clear cut answers or even a detailed write up on this mod....
I have a set of FX4 gauges in mail that I plan on putting into my XLT. I have learned I believe that I WILL have to involve the dealership somewhat as far as getting my odometer adjusted and possibly addressing the PATS issue.
Does anyone else have any other tips or successfully had this done and any advice on keeping as cheap as possible?
I plan on doing a complete write up on it all and doing as much of the install work as possible....

UPDATE:
Went the local dealer here and quoted me $80 to the Odometer swap. Said it would be no issues and take about 30min....Pretty excited. Will have this installed this week....and do a wirte up.
I am curious as to where you got the cluster and what it put you back?
I got the cluster off craigslist for about $150 and it's gonna cost about $80 to get everything matched to my truck so It'll set me back about $230.....so all I think it's fair price and intend on selling my xlt gauges to get a little bit back out of it....
I realize that....dont really know why I put that on there....
I dont think the swap will be too bad. I talked to one of the tech's here pretty in depth and he made it sound like it really wasn't that bad....said they do them all the time...
It would take you 30 minutes to do yourself...easy! Disconnect the battery and unscrew a few screws, unplug the gauges and shifter cable and reverse the order on the new set. The only diffence with the dealer is they'll program your mileage other than that EVERYTHING else works fine.

Dealer also has to reprogram the P.A.T.S. system or the truck WILL not start.....but I realze the rest is will not be too diffucult although in past experience of takin apart other dashes it not as easy as it sounds....Gauges should be in today so I might try and start on it tonight. Guess we'll see how it pans out....
Mine didn't have to go to the dealer when I swapped out the gauges to the FX4 style...just disconnected the battery before pulling any plugs and it starts daily just fine...

hmmm your the first person Ive read that didn't have any issues.....def very interesting to hear for sure.....still dont change much in my situation. Dealer will have to see the mileage on the old cluster ir order to match the new ones or they won't touch it....which I understand....
im curious as to y u have to get the dealer to change the mileage? should u not just be able to plug it in and the computer would be holding all that info? i ask becuz im curious about swapping in an FX2 dash into my truck... just my thoughts.... it seems they were wrong...
