I tried searching but couldn't find this scenario:
My wife's X every once in a while won't turn over. Radio, air, all instruments available but won't turn over. Usually happens after running in hot weather for a while. If she waits, say 15 minutes, then it starts up just fine.
A friend who used to drive semi's said he used to have the same problem when the wires to the starter get hot. ?? Sound plausible?
Sounds like the typical "dead spot" in the starter. I just replaced the starter on my wife's Chvrolet Impala.
Was doing exactly the same thing. Even the wait 15 minutes, then it would start thing.
Haven't had a bit of trouble since I replaced the starter last week.
I have the same year truck and motor. It turned out to be the starter solenoid. Before I replaced the solenoid, I replaced the starter, that did not fix the problem. I would encourage you to change the solenoid first and see if that fixes the problem. I think it is a $20 part. Good luck.
