I know there was another thread about this before but I couldn't find it and im sure there was an answer to the question.
Drove my truck alot today testing out my alignment and new tires and it did great except for when it gets about 190* and I turn it off when I go to crank it back it turns over slow. It still cranks up fine just turns over alot slower and kinda worries me. Anything I can do to fix this? New MSD cap/rotor new 9mm ford racing plug wires and new NGK V-power plugs so that rules those things out.
Other then that it was great and I enjoyed driving it instead of the 02 4.2 v6 I have been driving. Didn't enjoy the gas mileage difference though . Deff have to get exhaust put on it too loud when accelerating with open headers.
Could be the starter going out or getting too hot from the headers. If the headers are real close to the starter you can get heat soak which can cause the slow cranking. Could also be internally corroded battery cables or your battery gets hot and weak as well.
Sounds like you also have an aftermarket ignition system. The original duraspark II system had a spark timing retard while cranking feature that lets the engine turn over faster when it's hot.
I would first though, take a piece of aluminum flashing and tie it around the starter to make a heat shield like Sycostang was talking about. If that doesn't help, then turn the timing back a little bit and see if that helps.
