Check engine light no power

Check engine light came on and engine was running rough.
The CEL went off and the engine ran great. Next day CEL on startup the problem comes and goes.
The EGT was about 800 F when I was driving about 20 MPH. No boost pressure.
Question is where do you connect the scan tool to check the codes on 95 PSD?

I am thing it is CPS.

Go to an advance auto store or whatever you have near and get your CEL scanned. You connect the scan tool near the passenger side of the vehicle, inside the cab, near the bottom of the dash.

Sounds like maybe a burnt injector wire harness maybe unplug the injector harnesses on the valve cover gaskets and take a look to see if any of them are burnt you will smell it if it is bad another indicator is oil inside the plug end when you unplug it .

Did you find the cause ? My truck started doing the same thing today .Just idling picking up hay bales, daugther driving. Engine died, she restarted it.It ran very rough and CEL came on.All gauges fine . It cleared up,then did it again. Feels like it's starving for fuel,no power. I'll check my wires.CPS is about 2 weeks old.

Getting parts

Valves cover gasket burn. Wiring to the glow plug caused the black plastic to melt taking out the front right injector.

All my wires to the top of the valve covers looked good. Do I need to remove the valve cover and look under there for more ??? Thanks for your help.

tjbeggs hint about the oil was spot on. Pull the plugs to the valve covers and see if there is any oil in them.

All....
Thanks for your help. I owe you all a round of drink. If you get out to Oregon I am buying.

glad to see its diag'd

dads79, unless its REALLY bad you have to pull the covers to check for the burnt wires

ford 1183, i have seen that same issue countless times on sd's. dont know why it happens. they always snap back into place and never come back.

Correction….. WALJON, Thanks’ for your hint on the oil in the wire connection. It pointed me to the right side valve gasket.
Thanks to all that replied to the help me out.

I have the new gasket and valve cover harness installed and tested. Ran out of daylight to get all the bolts into the valve cover.
