has anyone tried the royal purple or q horsepower engine oils. my trucks due for an oil change and i was thinking of one of the two. tell me what you think anything will be appreciated.
I've seen huge differences in gas mileage between using 10w30 and the 5w20 that FMC recommends for its gas engines since at least the late 90's. Modern 5w20 is rated for these engines over a great temperature range and will work it easier than thicker viscosity oils. Viscosity (Weight) is only a measurement of how much force it takes to force the oil through a certain size orifice. Shear, high/low temp performance (Viscosity indexing) and many other factors apply that are much more important in todays oils.
Any quality oil will suffice that's rated for todays engines. Synthetic oil is great. It can last longer between changes for sure.
If your not racing or doing high stress work like heavy hauling on steep hills..... The fancy stuff is mostly a waste IMHO.
YMMV! My .02.
I am not a lubricant specialist....though I have fantasized about being one on TV.
Ford uses semi syn in all their vehicles. So going backwards to dino is a waste. But its true Amsoil is the besst oil on the market, although its difficult to get. I am currently tossing Mobil 1 or Royal Purple around in my mind. Ive heard people say the get more hp and roughly 2 mpg increase using royal purple. RP is close to 8.00 a quart and i believe Mobil 1 is closer to 5.00.... hard chose
