Hey folks, relatively new on here...nice to see some alberta peeps If any of you have some advice with my current issue, it's in the 6.0 section, titled "help, not sure what to do....." any help would be appreciated!! Would love to get my truck on the road.
A cold air intake and dpf delete and a chip will almost double your mileage if you are not too hard on the throttle.
I haven't got any experience with that particular engine, but "doubling" your mileage isn't typically possible with simple bolt-on mods.
On many vehicles, the ONLY economical mod to improve fuel economy is to tape a raw egg to your gas pedal. I'm not a believer in cold air intakes or chips for fuel economy.

the 6.4 was when they first introduced the DPF or diesel particulate filter with regeneration cleaning.
what this means is there is a big canister that "collects" all of the soot and exhaust by products, at great restriction to the exhaust system, then when it needs to be cleaned it actually injects diesel fuel into the canister to burn it off more completely. this is the regeneration cycle.
as a whole the dpf robs MAJOR HP causes EXTREME heat (look up ford exhaust fire on youtube, they used to shoot flames out the tailpipes) and uses a lot of fuel as well as causing a major increase in engine load. deleting it (tuning is necessary or else it will go into limp mode) as well as a custom fuel economy tune and an intake will let the truck breathe and flow a million times better, free up lots of power, as well as turbo response (not that the lucky 6.4 needs any!) and greatly increase fuel economy.
its not an exaggeration for those claims. and as for chips and intakes for economy, it does make a difference. especially new engines that are completely electronically controlled. a chip can remove the factory "emissions based" tuning and give it more power that it should have had before, thus providing you with enough torque to coast more often and reduce fuel consumption.

I have gone from about 30l per 100km down to 17l per 100km on the average and the only other thing that has changed is the tires from 33" to 35" so I can positively say that a chip works IMO.
