went to get my explorer inspected they said my rear spring shackles were crapped out, they also said the whole spring, spare tire everything might need to be removed quoted me like 500 or so for the labor,am i the only one that thinks it's to high, anyways, put it off for now, been alternating between my contour and saab
What 460 said is true unless the springs hangers are rusted out also. The whole spring should not have to be removed to replace shackles. Only part of it. If the spare tire has to be removed that doesn't really require any labor. They can just drop it down and take it out. I think a reasonable price to have just the shackles replaced and nothing else would be 100 dollars. I could see it being as high as 150 or maybe even 200. If it is higher than that I would find someone else to do it. 500 is way too much for that.
well they said they guaranteed the bolt would be stuck in the rubber in the leaf spring, they have to torch it out,it'd ruin the rubber when they did it,they might have a hard timegetting to the bolts on the other side, the spare tire holder looks rusted, they might have to take off the whole leaf spring and front shackle, didn't really seem like they wanted to do it,guess i'll talk to a dealership
