i have a 76 with a 460 and c6 tranny. i recently installed a new oil pump and new valve seals. thought everything was fine. turns out the linkage got fouled up some how. she does not want to shift properly, and i cannot figureout what the problem is. i think the rod might have been bent somehow. please help.
the rod is attached to the carb. there semms to be some sticking at the connection. i did try to spray the area with lithium grease. i took her out driving and i had to rev her pretty good to get her to shift. at one point i had her at 50 mph and she seemed to be in her stride, but then she down shifted all of a sudden??? i have a hard time even moving the rod back and forth.
Have you checked the vacuum modulator? If the diaphragm on the modulator is cracked, you'll get oil into the vacuum line and it will fudge up your shifting.
the linkage needs to move freely
also is the vacuum modulator line hooked up?

Yeah thats why I ask how it shifted. They didn't really specify so to clear things up. If you jump on the gas and the truck takes off like it doesn't give a crap, just shifts like regular acceleration, then the kickback is the problem. If it's stuck in first then get under the truck and check the vacuum line at the back of the tranny. I'll guaruntee that it's one of them which both are pretty easy fixes.
