One good thing is you will never change a spark plug. For the Diesel engine to last for 1,000s of miles, maintenance is the most important part. If you follow the schedule ford recommends, you should not have issues.

Crossing fingers goes here. Good luck, you will love the truck.

I don't think there is more maintenance, but it does cost more. You still have to change the oil about the same frequency, but it costs more. You have to change fuel filters a bit more often, and it's critical that you do so. Fuel filters need to be changed on gassers too, but they often are not without any issue. That's all really. No more items, just more expensive.

On the plus side, no spark plugs as already mentioned, and the air filters last 3-5 times longer than on the typical gasser. They still cost more however.

x2 what they said. If you don't have to ability to do your own oil changes/minor mant. work is going to be quite a bit more expensive than a gaser.

I've heard its around $60-70 for an oil change.

Some guys have reported oil changes at such a low price. But not around me. I figure about $120 each time. That is the dealer price and is actually a little bit lower than the EZ Lube place on the corner. Not that they would ever touch my truck anyway, but I did get a quote.

Check this thread:

and this thread:

for discussion on maintenace prices.

It's expensive, but so if fuel, and I would not trade my truck for any other.

Yeah, I wasn't for sure on how much they cost. I do all my own work.

However, it is another thing to think about when purchasing a diesel.

My last dealer oil change was $84.95. More recently I changed it myself for $56.41(Rotella 15w40 and Fram filter from Walmart).
