my 02 has started developing the sloppy shifter again. if you do not make sure it is in park, it will roll when shut off, and sometimes it will not start unless i pull the shifter up into park, or wiggle it down in neutral.
the shift tube was replaced 7 years ago when i first got the truck because it was broken.
i already checked the two torx screws, and they are tight.
The crappy plastic bushings could be worn out. They're available at napa for a few bucks, if that turns out to be the problem. Grease them up well if you change them.

that all seems tight. with the shifter movement, the piece the torx screws attach moves accordingly. it looks like it is after the steering column.
I think there's been a misunderstanding somewhere. The bushings are held in place by clamps that also use Torx screws. You have to lower the steering column to get to them.
