hello to all again, im full of questions i know. but im almost about to buy a 6 inch lift for my truck and im needin some new tires along with it. i like the bigger gap look with smaller tires and a bigger lift, instead of stuffing the biggest tire i can under it. i was thinking around a 35 or 36 in tire. but my question is, can my stock gears handle that big? im running 285s now with no problem. but since its a f-250 sd i thought the gearing is more beefed up than a 150 so maybe i could get away with a 35" or 36" tire without a problem. also, im not sure about a 6 inch lift...im scared im gonna have to lengthen the drive shaft, i know i'll have to extend the brake lines. im just worried that theres gonna be more to it that just a lift kit in a box. or would a 4 inch lift be better..? you guys know your stuff on this website! thanks in advance---ryan
I'm pretty sure you won't need a longer drive-shaft with 6" of lift. Someone else will correct me if I'm wrong... Alot of people go with a 35" tire with a 6" lift. It fits well... not too big not too small. And as far as your gears go... What ratio do you have right now?
With a 4" the front driveshaft is fine......with a 6-7" it may have to be lengthened to ensure sufficient spline engagement especially if you drive on the roads in the snow and use 4x4. Under $200 to get it retubed and balanced at most driveline shops. I only know of a few 6-7" lifts that have had this issue.
4" kit, with an additional 1.5" lift shackle in the front, on 315's. i have factory 4.10's... i couldnt imagine having 3.73's and running these 35's (remember 99's only have 235 hp).
DCSpecial, I've been trying to decide between the Mickey Thompson MTZ and Toyo MT for a while. How does the road noise compare between the two at highway speeds? Also, any idea which tire wears better? I really like the MTZ look, but I hear nothing but good about the Toyos, but also, everyone has Toyo MTs. Any info would be great, sorry for the thread hijack.
I have a 6 inch superlift and am running with 35 toyo MT. I have the 3.73. Did not need to lengthen any driveshaft. Truck runs better than stock, Not the fastest off the line, but runs fine, even when pulling the boat. I did stick with the 18 inch rims rather than the 20, partly because I didnt want to lose too much speed and partly because the 20's were alot more money.
Why not, I am. I just have not had the money to change the gears out
you have a 2002... 30 more hp in stock form than 99's.

when i was in the market, it was between these two as well... the mickeys were cheaper and noone had them, so i went that route and have nothing but good things to say. i have 37,xxx miles on them and they're probably at 35-40% still.
