The Saginaw pump is for an 80s Ford van. A1 Cardone is the company that rebuilds them and their part number is 20-6244. You can go to Rock Auto and search that number and you will find it, not cheap but worth every penny if you are sick of the whine. I am told they are sometimes available from NAPA but can be hard to get because Cardone has trouble finding cores. I got my first rebuilt one off ebay for $20.00 and a second off ebay for $40.00 but be patient you may be awhile before you see another that cheap. They are a bolt on swap for a 79 460, I dont know about other engines. You will need a puller to swap your pulley over.
What about going back to basics here, if you want better off road capability....Lift it, then bigger tires, see how you like that. If you need more power, bigger motor, upgrade steering (high steer arms, and crossover linkage is best), want more torque to the ground? Add lower gear ratios. Want more traction to the ground? Limeted slip or lockers, Detroit Eaton is the only way to go on this one, all else are crap and dont hold up under abuse (unless your looking into an $800 ARB air locker). With that all said, I would then look into the electrical system, I put a 160Amp alt in mine, then put two 1200cca semi truck batteries hooked up in parallel, will give you copious amounts of juice. Best unstucker on the planet is the warn winch on a reciever, you can hook it up in the rear or the front to line up with best towing. And then I would work out the small issues to make the truck more reliable (probably should be the first thing to do, but my ego says NO!!)
If its a 2WD, build a ****kicker of a motor, 35 spline you a 9" with a locker, C6, and go eat yourself some hondas
Changed from a 460 to a Perkins diesel, swaped from a C6 to a RTO6610 10sp. went to a dana 70 Posi, from a 60 open, change front hubs and brakes from a f250 to a f350,replaced stock dash to Walnut. added keyles entry, power windows,Headliner with radio and speaker,Tilt front clip air activated, airride rear susp with automatic levaling valves,Put duel rear wheels all 6 wheels are alum, and new paint, seats out of a 9? ext cab.exhaust brake,4"exhaust,homemade flat bed,B&W 5th Reese class5 hitch.rewiredmost of the truck,130 amp internal reg.Removed all the origanal heater and AC replaced it with Vintage Air parts lot more room under the hood and does a better job,
I most likly forgot a few other things.

My 76 has a narrow frame and the guy I bought it from installed a power steering setup from a 70's model chevy on the outside of the frame, inside the front right wheel well. very simple/slick mod.
My truck also came from the factory with a tool box built right into right rear fender panel, I liked this so much I found a used box off of another 70's model ford and removed the tool box and took it to a body shop and had it installed on the drivers side of my truck.
Third mod I'm really pleased with you can pick up at just about any parts store and take home and bolt on. this would be the grill guard. although they usually run several hundred bucks they are priceless and living in Montana mine has saved me a lot of time and money cause the deer don't care what kind of vehicle you drive and you can try your hardest to avoid them but sometimes accidents happen
As to the worst mods, I have none that I regret so far
Not yet. I do have pictures of three that I have done but no scanner to get them on here. I will be doing this to the blue truck in my signature in about 2 weeks if all goes well. I can take pics as I go and get them up if yalls interested
Oh yeah I sent you a pm on how to do it so pictures and a article in the project forums would be a big help.
