hows it goin ? for you guys
i have a 66' f250 w/ 300 I6 4spd and need a carburetor,
now i have found a carburetor for 100 bucks but the only thing is that it is automatic choke and this truck dosen't have it. so will it make a difference if i use it or not i really dont need a choke as i won't be driving it in the winter but i wanna know if it will pose any problems thanks?
What kind of carb is on the truck now? Is it a 1 or 2 barrel? As for the choke, it depends what kind of choke is on the new carburetor. If it's fully electric, all you'll have to do is run a wire from the stator terminal of the alternator up to the choke. But if it's a hot-air choke, you might not be able to easily accomodate that since you have a manual choke and your manifold won't be set up for a choke stove. In that case, if you're really set on using this carburetor, it'd be easiest to swap the choke cap for a fully electric version. Or, even easier, your manual choke linkage will swap right over to whatever other carb you put on there, assuming your choke cable is long enough. As far as I know, all the old Motorcraft\Autolite\Carter choke caps are pretty much the same size. You can swap manual and auto chokes pretty easily.
it is an electric choke the carter and the carb on it now is a 1 barrel i'd really like to keep the original which i got manual choke 1 barrel ford but the check ball valve? is spitting up fuel through the top do you know any places that sell cheap carbs? and what should i offer the guy?
Why not just rebuild the one you've got? Usually runs you under 50 bucks - gallon can of carb cleaner, a couple spray cans, rebuild kit and fuel filter. That is what I would do. If you buy a used carb you might have to rebuild it anyway. I wouldn't pay over much more than somewhere between 10 and 20 bucks for an old 1 barrel. No joke. Try the junkyard or eBay.
Which piece is missing? I had the same issue on mine. A piece that does eventually wear out wasn't included in the rebuild kit, and another piece that someone just lost along the years was missing as well. I had to track them down, but it was certainly a lot cheaper than $100.
It's worth the price if you're doing a resto. I already told you though; 100 for a carb that you'll be using as parts is a ripoff. If you just need parts, find a dirty old carb in need of rebuilding and don't spend more than 10 dollars.
